Today’s episode is all about the customer’s experience. I feel like we equate it to customer service, and that it’s just something that we have to do rather than something that we get to do as business owners and as brands. As people, any interaction with customer service is usually one that you’re super frustrated because you’re coming in with a problem and get sub par experience of how that problem is handled.

Customer expectations are higher than they’ve ever been. As customers, we have so many more choices than we’ve ever had before. We’ve become more discerning about our choices and we believe that every choice that we make says something about who we are. Of course, this isn’t always true; sometimes we’re asleep in our choices or we’re operating on autopilot. As a business or brand, you don’t want to cater to the customer operating on autopilot because they’ll eventually abandon you. You want to remember that customers are both emotional and practical and figure out how to appeal to both sides.

Today, I want to talk about the power in hiring your mentors. I know it sounds strange because a lot of people are accustomed to a mentorship being a freebie. If you’re the mentor, someone has probably begged or pleaded with you to kindly share your wisdom, advice, your contacts and connections with them because you’re further along the path then they are. Sometimes you say yes, and it usually looks like you giving your time for free without a regular cadence or consistency, without deep stretches of time, and it’s just based on when you happen to be available.

And if you’re the mentee, and really craving someone on the path that’s further along than you, then you approach this person, state your case, and every time they give you their time, you do feel grateful, but you’re very hyper aware of asking too much of their time. Also, you might not ask the direct questions that fit your needs. If you’re listening to  this podcast, I know that you don’t want to be on autopilot and that you want to continue learning and growing. My recommendation is to hire your mentors so you can continue to learn and grow and so you and your mentor will show up consistently and powerfully.

Time is the one thing that levels the playing field. No matter how much money you have, no matter what your life looks like, we all have the same 1440 minutes in the day. It’s about how we choose to fill our time, and what our experience with those minutes is like.

As we grow, evolve, and mature, the expectation for work to be our top priority is maintained or even increases. As we come up the ladder, we think every new accomplishment is going to free us in some way, when it actually requires us to take on more responsibility and robs us of time. This also remains true even when you become an entrepreneur. However, if you truly want to achieve something deeper and more meaningful for yourself, instead of ramping up, you have to slow down.
