    • Is the government's cyber policy moving from partnership to command-and-control?

Cybersecurity in the private sector has long been a matter of collaboration. Companies and sectors worked with government to establish risk management approaches to what companies would ultimately decide to do. Our next guest believes that statements coming from the administration signal a move to cyber regulations, mandates and oversight. Attorney Megan Brown, a partner at Wiley Rein, talked about it with Tom Temin.

    • After pushback, NSF implements 4.6% average pay raise for all excepted service employees

The National Science Foundation has confirmed that all of its excepted service employees will get a 4.6% pay raise for 2023. The announcement from agency leadership walks back an initial plan to give some upper-level NSF employees a 1% raise. It was an attempt to ensure pay differentiation within the agency, but it quickly gained pushback from employees and the union. • OPM's update to HCBRM gets underway

When it comes to modernizing back office functions across the government, sometimes you have to start at the bottom. Forget about the cloud or the modern software for a second, and focus on basic definitions. That’s what the Office of Personnel Management is doing with the first update in five year to the Human Capital Business Reference Model or HCBRM.

Jeff Pollack is the HR Line of Business program manager and Steve Krauss is a senior advisor for the HR Quality Service Management Office and the HR LOB at OPM. They tell executive editor Jason Miller about how they are focusing on the basic definitions through the draft HR Federal Integrated Business Framework or FIBF. First you hear from Jeff Pollack.

    • Is the Air Force abandoning its close air support mission?

The Air Force has long had the job of providing close air support for Army and Marine Corps ground troops. Its what made the A-10 attack fighter such a beloved instrument. The F-35 is supposed to replace the A-10 in that role. But internal Air Force documents suggest the Air Force will no longer provide close air support. The Federal Drive with Tom Temin learned more from the Project on Government Oversight's Dan Grazier.
