The 2025 USA Championships is kicking off on July 31st and the entries are now set, though some changes may occur over the next week. The top sprinters are all planning to line up in various different events to secure their spots to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. A few athletes will be attempting doubles in the 100 and 200m, while others will focus in on just one event including the 100m, 200m, 400m, and others. Bryan Levell from Jamaica ran a new personal best of 9.82 seconds in the 100m. That makes him the 2nd fastest athlete in the world in 2025, and also makes him the 8th fastest Jamaican 100m sprinter in history. Though Bryan did not qualify for the 2025 World Championships in the 100m, he has qualified in the 200m and already has a windy mark of 19.79 to his name this year. 2024 Olympic 400mH gold medalist and world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has confirmed that she will be running the 400m at the 2025 USA Championships. Because she does not have the wild card to the 2025 world champs, this likely confirms she will contest the event against Olympic & World Champion Marileidy Paulino and 2019 world champion Salwa Eid Naser. But this does make things complicated for the USA 400m team.

Oblique Seville has been one of, if not the most consistent 100m sprinter for Jamaica over the past 4-5 years. He has made every global championship, including making the past 3 finals, from 2021-2024. But, despite his consistency, he unfortunately has yet to win an individual medal of any color at either the Olympic Games or World Championships. There are various reasons that have led to him not medaling, but in 2025, he has made a few changes that seem to indicate he is on a path toward getting onto the podium at the 2025 World Champs in Tokyo later this Summer. But just like previous years, the path will not be easy.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is the greatest 100m sprinter of all time, and one of the greatest track and field athletes in history. She recently announced that 2025 would be her final season competing in the sport, and that last year’s Paris Olympics was her final Games. At those 2024 Olympics, Shelly competed in the first round of the 100m, but surprisingly did not show up to compete in the semi-finals and ultimately left Paris, ending her 16 year long Olympic career. This was a shock to the track & field world, and for almost a year she never provided a clear explanation as to why she chose not to compete. In July 2025, she sat down with Marie Claire and finally explained what occurred in Paris last year.
