Heartbreaker alert! Brandon and Kent give a hunting season update and Kent spills the beans on his recent hunting disaster. This one is full of blood trailing tips, emotion, commiseration and a renewed passion for notching tags.

Many times the best advice comes from those who have spent nearly their entire lives doing something. That is true for this interview with Bill Jenkin III. Bill is a Montana native who grew up chasing mule deer and elk in his own backyard. This interview is packed full with stories and tips that will take you far beyond just picking up a tag and finding a place to hunt. Bill's advice will actually teach you how to hunt these species so tune in and put yourself that much closer to notching a mule deer or elk tag.

Brandon and I know very little about waterfowl hunting so we had to bring in an expert to educate us on the basics of pursuing these migratory, aquatic birds. David Stallard from The Call Outdoors is an avid waterfowl hunter who provides the perfect amount of facts for a foundational understanding of how to hunt these species.

The goal of First Gen Hunter is to encourage people to pursue hunting further than they have before- whether that's for the first time ever, or just getting out in the field more often. Mark Norquist of Modern Carnivore shares that same goal of helping others find this passion for hunting. In this episode Kent and Brandon talk to Mark about the mission of Modern Carnivore, why hunting is good for people, and why people are good for hunting.

This episode is for the common man. Most folks don't have access to huge swaths of private ground to hunt. Instead many hunters own properties that are under 100 acres, but that doesn't mean it can't be an excellent place to take down a mature deer. Chase Burns is a Land Manager who is a master of maximizing small properties for deer hunting. Listen in to pick up excellent tips on purchasing small hunting properties, land management misconceptions, small property hunting strategy and so much more.

The most important step in fulfilling a dream is to just go and do it. That's what Joe Shead did when he decided to capitalize on an opportunity to purchase a bull moose tag in Alaska. The story is excellent and there are plenty of great hunting tips embedded along the way. Tune in and learn the value of grabbing life by the antlers.

We have a country full of game, and much of that can be credited to our great wildlife biologists all across the continent. In this interview Brandon and I get to speak with Upland Wildlife Biologist- Mr. Todd Bogenschutz from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Todd explains the history of many upland species in the midwest, and then provides an update on how their populations are faring today by providing an explanation of the Iowa 2020 Roadside Survey results. Todd also explains how hunters and landowners can maximize their hunting habitats for more birds, and what it would take for our country to return to the glory days of these species on the midwestern landscape.

We all have a dream hunt and there is so much work that goes into making that happen. Possibly the most confusing aspect is "getting the tags" from each state we plan to hunt. There are so many different rules and methods for attaining nonresident tags that many of us just give up on the dream altogether. Thankfully guys like my friend Alex know the ins and outs of all of this and can help us navigate these tricky steps of preparation and make our dreams a reality.
