Lance Taylor, who has been a prominent radio voice on legendary WJOX-FM, aka JOX 94.5 FM in Birmingham, Ala., for years, joined the Flagship Podcast to give his thoughts on Texas hiring Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian as head coach.
Taylor gives his thoughts on Sarkisian as an offensive coordinator at Alabama and how he's undoubtedly matured as a coach and now seems ready to once again take over a program after his well-documented alcohol dependency issues that led to him being fired as USC's head coach in 2015.
Taylor acknowledges that getting to coach the talented players recruited to Alabama, such as Heisman Trophy winning receiver DeVonta Smith, would probably allow even Chip Brown to put up 35 points per game as offensive coordinator at Bama.
But Taylor gives credit to Sarkisian for taking an offense that averaged 47.2 points per game in 2019, second only to national champion LSU (48.4 ppg), and improving the Crimson Tide's scoring to 48.2 points per game in 2020 heading into Monday night's national championship game against Ohio State.
Taylor, a Heisman Trophy voter, weighs in on how he saw the 2020 Heisman Trophy race, which included three Alabama players (Smith, quarterback Mac Jones and running back Najee Harris) among this year's five finalists.
Taylor said he lost a bet among his co-hosts on JOX 94.5 when Tom Herman was let go at Texas, because Taylor believed Herman would have Texas in the College Football Playoff within five years of being hired.
Taylor, who runs a prognistication site where sports bettors can get his picks (lanceslock.com), gives his predicition for Monday night's championship game between Alabama and Ohio State.
