Football is back in the air in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns have made their much anticipated return to the gridiron and kicked off the first spring football practice schedule under new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas has a number of questions that need to be addressed leading up to the 2021 football season, including who will be taking snaps at QB between Casey Thompson and Hudson Card.
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on what they are hearing early on in spring ball, including some potential attrition news on the defensive side of the ball. The host discuss what Sarkisian has said following the first days of spring ball and what to make of his comments about the quarterback position as Card and Thompson battle for the No. 1 job. The Flagship also weighs in on some injury news, including the loss of junior wide receiver Jake Smith, who went down with a foot injury during Day 1 of spring practice, and what the linebacker position looks like with DeMarvion Overshown out for spring after undergoing shoulder surgery during spring break.
The Flagship then shifts focus to the embattled Texas basketball program after yet another first round loss in the NCAA Tournament and what that could mean for Shaka Smart's future. After touching some on basketball, baseball and softball, The Flagship returns with our weekly Love it or Leave it segment, with this week's topics focused on if Shaka Smart needs to be fired, who could be his replacement, the excitement level for Texas spring football and more!
Catch all of that and much more on this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast.
