Following Texas' 2-1 loss to Mississippi State Sunday night in the Longhorns' first game of the College World Series, we get the thoughts of former Texas State baseball coach and Texas-ex Ty Harrington.

Harrington went to Omaha three times as a player at Texas and understands the expectations on the Longhorns, who are making their record 37th appearance in the College World Series.

Harrington talks about the stellar pitching performances of Mississippi State's Will Bednar (15 strikeouts) and Landon Sims (six strikeouts) as well as the strong performances by Texas pitchers Ty Madden (10 strikeouts) and redshirt freshman lefty Pete Hansen (two strikeouts) - as well as those twilight, infield shadows at T.D. Ameritrade Park in Omaha that make it hard on hitters.

Harrington talks about the struggles at the plate experienced by Texas' five-through-eight hitters - Cam Williams, Douglas Hodo III, Trey Faltine and Silas Ardoin - who each struck out three times against Mississippi State.

Harrington also talks about how important it will be for those hitters to come to bounce back on Tuesday at 1 pm CT when the Longhorns take on No. 3 overall seed Tennessee in a win-or-go-home matchup. The Volunteers (50-17) lost 6-0 to unseeded Virginia in their CWS opener on Sunday.

Harrington talks about what he likes about having Tristan Stevens (11-3, 2.97 ERA) as the starting pitcher for Texas against Tennessee, a power-hitting team ranked No. 4 nationally in home runs hit this season with 98.
