God knows your thoughts, motives, intentions, and desires. You’re not designed to run on emotions. Emotions will manipulate and control you if you allow it. Most people operate on emotions because that’s all they have. But you have a one-of-a-kind power system—the living Word of God and the filling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Combine these two and you have unlimited potential. “Be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Eph 5:18). “Study to show yourself approved unto God” (2 Tim 2:15). That’s why we need qualified pastors to teach us. Impersonal love is a professional attitude we must have as Christians. “To one who knows what to do good and does not do it, to him it is a sin” (James 4:17). It’s loving others based on who you are, not on who they are. We must love our spouse and not hold grudges. “Older women should teach younger women to love their husbands and to love their children” (Titus 2:4). “Stop thinking in terms of arrogance beyond what you should think; but think in terms of humility as God has assigned to each one of us a standard of thinking from His Word” (Rom 12:3). Personal love for God motivates us to love others with impersonal love.

It’s never too late to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior. Not even if it’s the dying phase of your life. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise. He is long-suffering towards us and not willing that any should perish but all should be saved” (2 Pet 3:9). Express that faith to God in prayer, “Father, I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior.” That’s all there is to it. A simple act of faith alone in the finished work of Christ alone. Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, had a unique birth, a unique life, and a unique death. God doesn’t always have to tell you what He expects. As you get to know Him you can sense what He expects from you. “Present yourself as instruments of righteousness to God” (Rom 6:13).

Impersonal love is a different type of love. Problem-solving device #8. It’s you loving an unlovable person. Didn’t God do that for you? God loves you based on who He is, not on who you are. “This is My mandate that you love one another, as I loved you” (John 15:12). Love is something that is learned. It’s not natural. “Let brotherly love continue” (Heb 13:1). The emphasis is on the virtue of the lover not the virtue of the receiver. Personal love is reserved for God. Impersonal love doesn’t work unless it’s motivated by personal love for God. Your two biggest enemies are arrogance and emotions.”If someone says I love God and he hates his fellow man he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). Emotions react. Forgiveness responds. Impersonal love is a great problem-solving device because it takes the monkey off your back. You don’t have to love obnoxious jerks. You just have to forgive them! “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). You love them because God loves you.

Love is a virtue.  Love for God is motivational virtue. Love for others is a functional virtue. If you love God, you will obey Him (John 14:15) and the base of this love is the filling of the Holy Spirit. “Whoever keeps His Word, truly the love of God is perfected in him” (1 John 2:5). Love is the capacity for life. It’s like a flowing river with knowledge and wisdom being the banks keeping the water in control. If emotions take over, water overflows the banks, and love goes amok. The more you learn of the Word of God the more you realize the importance of loving God. And the importance of being occupied with Jesus Christ, problem-solving device number 10. Stability in life. “Now that you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth so that you have genuine love, love for one another developed deeply from the heart” (1 Pet 1:22).

Love for God is the motivation of why you do what you do. It gives you the knowledge to understand and discern what to do. “I pray your love may abound more and more in knowledge and discernment” (Phil 1:9). “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind” (Matt 22:37). This is a command. Personal love for God is problem-solving device #6. You can’t love a God you don’t know. If you don’t know His Word, you don’t know Him. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His mandates; and His mandates are not hard” (1 John 5:3). God is not going to ask you to do something you can’t. “Though having not seen Him you love Him and though now you do not see Him yet believing in Him you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving as the end of your faith the salvation of your souls” (1 Pet 1:8-9). Only one thing will make you happy. Christ said it this way, “happiness belongs to those who hear My Father’s Word and keep it” (Luke 11:28).

You can’t change anyone but yourself. You are the only one that can change you. How? By learning the unique life we have as Christians from using the unique resources God has given us. Starting with our most unique Savior. The world’s most interesting man is Jesus Christ, the anointed Son of God, our Redeemer, the One who walked out of the grave alive, the One Who will come and live in you if you let Him. Jesus Christ had a unique birth and a unique life. He was the God-man. God and man in one body. “I and My Father are one” (John 10:33). Our job is to replicate His life and to re-present Him to our family, friends, and those we influence.

God didn’t say problems would go away. He said “No testing has overtaken you that is not common to man” (1 Col 10:13). You’re going to have adversity, it’s inevitable. But God has given you unique resources to prevail through the adversity. Yes, you’ll sin, you’ll fail. We all commit sins on a daily basis—mental attitude sins, sins of the tongue, and overt/outward sins. Rebound, problem-solving device number one, gives us the opportunity to recover from failure, recover from sin, and get back in the game. If we allow the Holy Spirit to control our life then we can use faith-rest to resolve issues using the promises of God. When you claim a promise you’re stabilizing your thoughts so you don’t worry. “Stand still and watch what God will do about this” (Ex 14:13). Then apply a Biblical rationale, problem-solving device number four. Problem-solving device number five is Grace Orientation. Saving grace, living grace, dying grace, and surpassing grace. When you begin to recognize what your reason for being here is, you’ve arrived at problem-solving device number six—your very own Personal Sense of Destiny. It’s sorta like a door. You leave your agenda behind and walk through the door into God’s destiny for you. Discover God’s purpose, plan, and will for you!

The FLOT Line is about giving you truth from the Word of God without any gimmicks. Unless you understand what’s in the Bible, you’re going to have a miserable life. If you try to live your life using your own energy, not the Holy Spirit’s, using human viewpoint, you’ll wind up going down the My Way Highway and that’s a dead end. “Because they hated knowledge and did not choose to respect the Lord … the complacency of fools will destroy them” (Hosea 8:7). Knowledge of the Word of God is your protection. “For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will preserve you, and understanding will keep you” (Prov 2:10-11). The Fantastic Four: Wisdom - Knowledge - Discretion - Understanding. This is amazing. The Lord Jesus Christ lives in you. And He must shine through you. And the world must see Him in you. “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col 1:27).

God’s ten problem-solving devices will stop the outside sources of adversity from becoming stress in your soul. As a Christian, you have an advantage. You have the indwelling of God in you!! And you have His Word, His mind to study in the Bible. Problem-solving device #4 is Biblical Orientation. That’s purposing the Word of God in your life. The Bible is a textbook, it’s not a novel. It was designed to be taught to you by men who have the spiritual gift of pastor-teacher. “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of Truth” (2 Tim 2:15). A catchy way to remember this is LAG. Learn God’s Word. Apply God’s Word. And glorify God. The mandate to learn, study, grow is throughout the Bible. “Come to Me all who labor and are heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me (Matt 11:28-29). God’s objective for us in time is to become mature Christians. You can’t grow to spiritual maturity unless you apply the Word that you learn and you can’t learn unless you study the Bible from a qualified pastor. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom 10:17).

As a Christian, you have a totally different mindset called the mind of Christ. “Let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5). It’s called thinking with a divine viewpoint. God has given you unique resources to live the Christian way of life. He’s given you His Word, the Bible, and He has given you the indwelling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Use them! Problem-solving device #2 is the Filling of the Holy Spirit. Spirituality is being filled with the Holy Spirit, meaning you have no unconfessed sin in your life. Spiritual maturity is you growing up spiritually, getting content of the Word of God in your soul, and applying it in your daily life. “Grow in the grace and the knowledge of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18). Every problem in life has a solution and the solutions are found in the Word of God, the Bible. The faith-rest drill is problem-solving device #3. Claim God’s promises - there are over 7,000 in the Bible. Trust in the Lord. Faith, the confidence in things unseen, is the real strength in the Christian life.
