Santi Bauzá

Rory and Phil visit Switzerland and Germany for the first time in an episode which is merger-heavy.

FC Malcantone Agno were formed n 1955 and spent most of their existence in the 3rd and 4th tiers of Swiss football. In 2004 they merged with the bankrupt FC Lugano to keep them afloat. They still exist today.

ESV Ingolstadt can trace their origins back to 1912, when they existed as a general sports club. They went through many mergers and name changes, and in 2004, merged with local rivals MTV Ingolstadt to form FC Ingolstadt 04, who still exist today.

03. HFC Haarlem

We're joined by Vincent Duitsch, who recounts the story of former Dutch club HFC Haarlem.

Always a bit of an underdog throughout their history, HFC Haarlem managed to keep pace with the larger sides in the Netherlands. They won the Eredivisie in 1946 and the KNVB Cup in 1902 and 1912, and enjoyed a short run in the 1982-83 UEFA Cup.

02. Palermo FC

We're joined by Adrian Kearney from They Think Kits and FutbolShirtalia to cover one of the many controversial casualties of football regulation in Italy - Palermo FC.

The history of football in Palermo stretches back to 1898, and in 1900 Palermo FC were formed as the Anglo Palermitan Athletic and Football Club. They would become the biggest club in Sicily, but in 2019, under severe financial strain, were expelled from Serie B under controversial circumstances.

Lechia-Polonia Gdańsk existed for 3 years following a merger, but after one of the merger clubs re-established their own team, Lechia-Polonia Gdańsk was abandoned and left as a shell club.

Budapesti VSC have had 15 name changes, and despite once being a powerhouse in Hungary, are now plying their trade in the lower leagues.

Both clubs frequently changed their identities, offering an interesting insight about how this affected attendances and fan identities.
