Meet Jocelyn. If you are local to Vail, you may know her as the Belden Witch. I always knew that Jocelyn would be a guest on my podcast, I just didn't know the topic. As you can imagine, I was pleasantly surprised when she showed interest in speaking on the subject of alcohol in our society and sharing her own journey with sober curiosity.

California Sober anyone? 

Today I have Kelly Smith joining me on the podcast to talk about her decision to ditch the booze, and most recently, to put some space between her and her dear friend, Mary Jane. (Do people still call it that?!?!?!) 

Kelly is sharing how she was introduced to both alcohol and marijuana and the roles they have played in her life. We talk about the joy that these substances initially brought her, and what changed to make her want to take a break from both of them. With big decisions like this come fears and doubts, but also a certain amount of clarity and new motivation. In this episode, Kelly shares all the feeling that she has and is navigating in her newfound sober curiosity. 

My hope is that if you have been sober curious yourself (from whatever happens to be your flavor), that pieces of Kelly's story will resonate with you, and maybe even get you excited about what might be on the other side of your decision.

I used to use the phrase, "I hold myself to a high standard", often. This was a really nice way of saying I was extremely hard on myself and if it wasn't perfect, I didn't feel good enough. 

While this can seem like a motivating phrase, it often leaves us feeling defeated, comparing others standards to our own, and constantly criticizing ourselves and our progress.

Today I'm sharing a reframe of this statement that will still allow you to show up for yourself fully, while shifting your focus from your shortages to your values. It is a simple perspective shift that will support you in making more progress, while acting in a way that is aligned with you and your goals.

Listening has become a lost art. 

I can't tell you the number of people in my coaching practice, or in my women's group, that end our conversations with, "thank you for listening". A very basic human need that each of us have is to be heard.

The busier and louder our world gets, the harder it has become for us to actively listen. 

This puts a strain on our relationships, increases misunderstandings and miscommunications,  and can also make completing tasks more challenging than they need to be.

• Being a non-drinker with a partner that drinks
• The assumption that if you aren't drinking, you must be judging those that are
