How to Bounce Back From DisappointmentFind out about Ken and I's latest argument and what I did to bounce back from being disappointed!!Don't worry.....we're still together. šŸ˜†šŸ¤ŖšŸ’“šŸ‘Šā€œIt’s not how far you fall, but how high you bounce that counts.ā€ —Zig Ziglar1. Face the truth of the situation2. Allow yourself to feel the disappointment but don’t stay there. Give it a time limit! Understanding how you respond in stress will really help you here to pinpoint how you’re responding.3. Think about WHY this was disappointing. Did it trigger a core weakness in you? Ex: Were you needing validation from someone because you aren’t in a healthy state with the Lord? Don't get stuck feeling like a victim.4. Check if your expectations are realistic. Why are you being triggered by the other person or the event? Is it about you or about them? Both? Old wounds?5. Be kind to yourself. If it was something you did, let it go. Figure out what to do differently next time. If it was a wound from someone else, talk with them about it and see if you can resolve the conflict and fix the wound before it creates division.#RealLifeĀ #enneagram9Ā #enneagram8

  • Episode 32: Sugar Freedom Series Day 6: Understanding Who You Are
Day 6: Understanding Who You Are
In Luke 10:38-42, we find the very familiar story when Jesus visited Mary and Martha. Martha was running around frantically cooking and cleaning and being busy. Mary was just sitting there, listening to Jesus and not helping!Ā
    Ā
I know that you’ve heard the story, but I want to present this to you today in a different light. You see, when we forget that we are God’s children, we forget to enjoy life. When we are misaligned with the Word, we try to operate fully on our own strength.Ā
    Ā
For example, as a type 9, I have a strong need and desire for peace and harmony in all their relationships, so I begin to accommodate and people-please, disregarding myself in the process. This causes me to become extremely anxious, especially if the conflict is
directed toward me. This makes me withdraw completely. I lose focus entirely and feel like I’m living in a fog.
I’ve had so many moms tell me, ā€œI just feel like I’ve lost myself and Iā€m living in a hazeā€.
Do you think that this is what was happening in our story? Martha was misaligned with God here? She was frantically trying to make sure everyone was happy and taken care of, but she was obviously getting burnt out. She forgot that she didn’t have to operate out of her own strength. She forgot who she was.
40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ā€œLord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!ā€
41 ā€œMartha, Martha,ā€ the Lord answered, ā€œyou are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.ā€
    For Your homework:
Find your favorite mirror in your home and spend five minutes
standing in front of it. Now, take a good, long look at yourself.
    Ā
At this point, you only need to come up with one thing. However,
once your time in front of the mirror is complete, you should sit
down and make a list of all the things you love about yourself.
    Ā
What do you like about yourself?
    Ā
This exercise may be painful if you have allowed self-hate to build up
within yourself. It’s okay if you respond to this exercise in an
emotional way. Take a break if need be but come up with a list of at
    least ten things.
    Ā
What makes you a great friend?
What makes you a good person?
    Ā
Write those down. Remember that these are things God has given you. You aren’t meant to do life alone. Understanding who you are and who’s you are is the first step to becoming aligned with your truest self-a daughter of the King.

  • Episode 31: Sugar Freedom Series Day 5: Understanding Your Relationship to Food
Day 5: Understanding Your Relationship With Food
    Ā
Sitting in my bedroom at 11pm at night with a spoon and half gallon of icecream to myself was the way I spent several nights. It was my time.Ā
    Ā
My husband and I were separated at the time and the nights were lonely once the kids went to bed. There were some nights I thought I’d never go to sleep!Ā
    Ā
You see, for me, icecream (and occasionally tortilla chips and queso were my partner, my lover, my companion.Ā
    Ā
During that time in my life, food was my friend. I know that sounds silly but,Ā  What is your relationship with food?
    Ā
Ā Imagine, for a moment, that food is a human being. It’s someone that you know well.
Describe your relationship with food. Write it down. Here are some ideas to get you started.
    Ā
What does your relationship with food (sugar) really look like?
What does that description look like? Is it a healthy, loving relationship?
    Is it your best friend?
    Your arch-nemesis?
    Ā
Now repeat this exercise, but this time describe sweets (a chocolate
bar, for example) as one person and more nutrient-dense food
    (raspberries, for instance) as another.
    Ā
Food is more than nourishment for a lot of us. It’s our secret keeper, our warm blanket on a cold night, our companion....just check to make sure you aren’t using food to replace real people or real connection in your life.
    Ā
I would like to end this with a quote from the Psychology of Eating:
Every word that describes our relationship with people equally describes our relationship with food: love, hate, pleasure, pain, learning, communication, change intimacy, conflict, surprises, all of it. Food is the longest term relationship you’ll ever have. It’s there from the beginning, til the end. We might as well relax into it.
    Ā
Thank you for listening to another episode of the MME podcast. I’ll be back again tomorrow for #6 in this sugar freedom series.

  • Episode 30: Sugar Freedom Series Day 4: Know Your Worth It
Day 4: Know You’re Worth It
    This is important
    Believe you are worth it
    Know why you’re worth it
Embarking on a journey to become sugar-free requires sacrifice, energy, money, and time. You have to understand that you are worth it. When you learn to embrace that, it makes it easier to maintain your mindset.
    Ā
Often it is the needs of others that derail your efforts. They need this, they need that, your focus is broken and suddenly, your perspective has been clouded.
    Ā
Putting yourself first and understanding your worth will be easier to do for some Enneagram numbers than other. So today I want to remind you of what IS GOOD about you and what your gifting is.
    Ā
So here are a few reminders for you:
    Ā
Type One: you are honest, fair, poised, polite, and sincere. Your ideas
and opinions are sound and reasonable
Type Two: You have the amazing ability to sustain positive affections for other people. You go out of their way to support, help, and care for others because you are loving, compassionate, and generous.
Type Three: You have the desire and will to improve themselves, motivate others to be their best, and adapt to any given situation. You have a healthy sense of self and can remain positive for a long time.
Type Four: are very self-aware, self-revealing, and able to communicate about your inner world in a way that helps others do the same.
Type Five: you are profoundly perceptive and capable of original, brilliant, and inventive solutions to problems.
Type Six: you think systematically and can predict potential problems. You are very loyal and committed!Ā
Type Seven: you do many things well because of your quick and sharp mind.
Type Eight: use their remarkable instinctive intuition to see possibilities in situations, and people that are often overlooked.
Type Nine: open, receptive, reassuring, and encouraging to others. You create a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere that enables others to flourish.
Now is the time to write out a list of why you’re worth this hard work and effort. It’s time for you to get to know your value and worth.

  • Episode 29: Sugar Freedom Series Day 3: Get Smart (Goal Setting)
    Sugar Freedom Series: DAY THREE
    Get Smart
Now it’s time to create goals. This will help you put yourself in the
right mindset. Remember, your goals should be SMART (specific,
    measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-specific).
    Ā
For example, your ultimate goal is to stop eating sugar. You have
    to be more specific!
    Ā
Say that that chocolate is your Achilles' heel, so
break it down by saying that you are only going to have chocolate on
days that start with an ā€œSā€, then move to just once a week, then just one time on
one day per week, etc., and set target dates. Think specifically and
Practically. I’ve said this many many times but small hinges turn big doors. Don’t try to change too many things at one time. I’ve seen this a lot with my clients. They want to start a new eating plan, plus Intermittent fasting, plus drink ½ their body weight in water daily and start training for a 5k…..slow down. Pick one goal then one step to get you there.
    Ā
Ā And sis...it’s not going to happen overnight, but it’s incredibly
discouraging when you set unrealistic goals you can’t reach them because they are too big or too many.
    Ā
Another mindset shift that helps in this regard is instead of thinking,
ā€œI need to quit sugar immediately,ā€ think ā€œToday, I will focus on
changing these habits, so I will eat some strawberries for a snack instead
of a candy bar.ā€ One day at a time.

  • Episode 28: Sugar Freedom Day 2: Understanding Your Why
Welcome back to the Mama Meets Enneagram Podcast where you'll learn how to work through your hurts, habits and hang ups to thrive in motherhood through the transformation of the Gospel+ knowledge of the Enneagram!
    Ā
    DAY TWO: Understanding Your Why
You have probably heard people talk about their why. Do you know what yours is? It’s a key part of your journey.
The decision to conquer your sugar addiction may seem like one you make with your rational mind, but in reality, it is one you make with your heart. True lasting motivation always comes from your heart, not from your head. A deep heartfelt desire goes a long way to lasting sugar freedom.
    Ā
Motivation varies from person to person, it may be a desire to look good, or a more negative one that stems from fear, such as the threat of heart disease or type 2 diabetes that results from over consuming sugar.
    Ā
When I first decided to stop eating sugar it was about my mental health. Dealing with anxiety and depression come from the internal battle I have with myself on a daily basis. You know I love the knowledge of the enneagram and I identify with a type 9 with an 8 wing. The issue with this type is that my 9ness wants inner peace at all cost while my strong 8wing wants to stand up for what I believe in and doesn’t want to back down at any cost.Ā
    Ā
That back and forth is hard in relationships because if my mental health is not on point I’ll either go into full numbness mode and check out (enneagram 9) or become very combative and ready to fight anyone who crosses me. These both trigger my biggest fear that I’ll be disconnected or separated from those I love.
    Ā
1 Corinthians 6:19 says: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own.
    Ā
2 Timothy 1:7 says: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
    Ā
I know that when I add in foods that don’t nourish my body and my mind I start on a slippery slope and it happens fast. So you see, for me, this is about temple care.Ā
    Ā
It’s time to ask yourself the hard questions to get down to the root.Ā
    Ā
Why are you interested in quitting sugar?
Are you concerned about your health?
Do you just want to lose weight and get in shape?
    Ā
Make 2 lists as to why you want to start this journey. Be honest
with yourself. Make a physical list so that you can place it somewhere
visible. It could be in your car, on the fridge or even on your bathroom mirror.
    Ā
Take a look at that list before you exercise, look at it before you make dinner. Reference it often. As of now, it’s your permanent reminder. Those who have solid motivation and keep in the forefront of their mind for life, enjoy lasting sugar-free success.
Make a list of all the negative consequences of not giving up Sugar
Make a list of all the positive consequences of quitting sugar.
    Ā

  • Episode 27: Sugar Freedom Day 1: Changing Your Beliefs About Food
    1
    DAY ONE
    Changing Your Beliefs
If you aren’t where you’d like to be, then there’s a good chance that your mindset isn’t either. Before you go any further, let’s touch on what your mindset really means. It’s your deeply held beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that reflect how you perceive yourself, others, and situations. Your mindset influences how you respond to these as well. Today is the day to change that.
Now, be honest with yourself. What type of baggage are you carrying around when it comes to your relationship with sugar? It’s okay if you don’t know specifically, but if you’re being truly honest with yourself then you’ll have a fairly good idea. You can’t change your beliefs until you challenge them, and now is the time to do this.
    Ā
I didn’t think that I had stories around myĀ  food I just thought I lacked willpower. I kept thinking that if I could just find the ā€œrightā€ eating plan then I’d be on my way. If I just had the right FB group or the right knowledge, then I’d be on my way. OR maybe if I had enough will power i could get it done. I blamed myself, I blamed my stress, I blamed my kids because they had sweets here...really it was my belief around sugar that has had me stumped!
Think about the following statements and ask yourself whether you believe them to be true.
I come from a family of sugar addicts; we just love desserts and celebrate with sweets on every occasion.
I’ve literally tried everything, there isn’t anyway I can stop eating sugar.
There is too much sacrifice required me To Overcome my sugar addiction successfully.
I just don't have the time to cook.
I Can't Afford To Buy The Right Type Of Food.
My Schedule Won't Allow Me Prepare Meals/snacks in advance.
I'd Be More Willing to work hard To Overcome Sweet cravings if I knew it would definitely work.
Know how To stop Eating Sugar;I’ll do it when I’m ready.
Be open and honest with yourself as you consider the statements above. Do they resonate? Don’t judge yourself based on your answers, just embrace your newfound awareness.
    Ā
