Wizard World Inc. filed suit against former Chief Marketing Officer Steve Shamus. The lawsuit alleges that Shamus, in his role for the company, diverted autographed products from talent he contracted to appear at the company’s shows and sold them, accruing over $1 million in misappropriated assets. Supposedly Shamus used outlets owned by members of his extended family to move the goods. In a 2-week span: the company’s stock dropped 18%, Shamus presented a (possibly forged) from his brother Gareb (the former Wizard CEO) demanding back-pay, a third Shamus brother, Kenny Shamus, resigned from the board of directors, Steve diverted contact to his attorney and (allegedly) attempted to delete all of his company emails. Wizard, which lost $4.3 million last year and is cutting back shows, is suing to recover “all compensation, salary, commissions, and bonuses paid to Shamus."

While calling out Marvel’s films in particular, Gibson went on with remarks aimed toward the climactic battles of many comic book films, which often show widespread destruction and, presumably, the loss of countless lives, all as part of a thrilling action sequence. Acknowledging the violence in his own catalog (namely Braveheart, Payback, Lethal Weapon, Apocalypto, The Expendables, Passion of the Christ, and the latest Hacksaw Ridge), Gibson's main point is the characters don't answer for the destruction.
