Records recently obtained by WGN Investigates shed new light on the final hours in the life of Treasure Hendrix — a woman who was found dead of a drug overdose last August inside an RV owned by a Chicago Police officer.

The records, obtained from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office via the Freedom of Information Act, also raise new questions about the relationship between the officer and Hendrix, who had a felony conviction for aggravated battery. The CPD’s personnel rules forbid officers from associating with persons convicted of crimes.

Hendrix, 35, was found dead on Aug. 19. Her family has said that, while she did drink, Hendrix did not use drugs. They’ve also called on the FBI to investigate her death. WGN is not naming the officer, as he has not been charged with any crimes. Attempts to reach him for comment were not successful.

The CPD, meanwhile, is continuing to investigate the officer even though he quit the CPD a week after Hendrix was found dead.

The officer resigned from the CPD on Aug. 26 — seven days after Hendrix, 35, was found dead in the officer’s RV that was parked in a lot at 15th and Western, according to records from the CPD and Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy found that Hendrix died of a drug overdose involving alcohol, cocaine, fentanyl, meth and ecstasy. The medical examiner’s office ruled her death an accident.

A spokesman for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability said investigators initially responded to the case, but later referred it to the CPD’s Bureau of Internal Affairs. A CPD spokesman on Thursday said both the department’s internal investigation and the investigation into Hendrix’s death remained open and active.

Five people were injured, and one person was killed at an Easter celebration at Birmingham Patton Park on Easter Sunday, April 4. An argument between two groups of men at the park developed into gunfire. More than 30 shots were fired. According to CNN, police said that the chaos started around 7 p.m. on Sunday at Patton Park in Birmingham. “At the time, the shooting occurred, hundreds of people were gathered at the park celebrating the Easter holiday when gunfire erupted,” Birmingham police said. Officers arrived and found 32-year-old Areyelle Yarbrough of Bessemer lying on the ground just outside of the passenger door of her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Birmingham police held a news conference to talk about the park shooting and announce a $10,000 reward for information about the case. December 5, 2021, USA Today says that as of yet, no arrests have been made. Police say that they believe multiple shooters were involved and are asking witnesses to come forward and providing information by contacting Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Lexington County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting on Woodcote Drive that left two sisters dead. The victims were identified as Jaimey McKenzie Green, 20, and Jazzmyne Ajytia Onisha Green, 25, by the Lexington County Coroner. Late Wednesday afternoon, deputies say the suspected gunman was found dead in his car parked in Richland County.

Investigators have arrested a second man in connection with last week's shooting death of a 40-year-old woman who was killed in the driveway of her east side home shortly after dropping off her children at school. Monday's arrest was announced hours after a Wayne County judge increased the bond of David Hammond, 45, who is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Andrea Tucker and firebombing her house in 2019. Hammond, who had been free on his own recognizance prior to Friday, had his bond upped to $300,000.

Hammond last week was named as a person of interest in Tucker's Nov. 17 shooting death. During a Monday press conference, Detroit Police Chief James White said the second suspect is related to Hammond. "We're confident we have the two men (responsible for Tucker's killing) in custody," White said. "We've got a lot to do before we submit this warrant." White added: "One person who we know was on the scene was lying in wait for our victim. We know who pulled the trigger."

Hammond's lawyer told The Detroit News last week that his client couldn't have committed the killing because he appeared via Zoom for a court hearing in the assault and arson case during the time police said Tucker was killed.

A third Kansas City man has been charged after a woman selling a PlayStation was fatally shot in August. According to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, 21-year-old Latrell Muldrew-Golston has been charged with second-degree murder. On Aug. 23, KCPD officers went to Independence Avenue in northeastern KC after receiving a call about a shooting and subsequent car accident. The driver, Randie Smith, was found in the overturned vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She had sustained wounds to her wrist and chest. Ultimately, the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide. During their investigation, detectives found 9mm shell casings in the parking lot of a gas station. Then, detectives learned that the victim had posted a PlayStation 4 as being for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

One woman is dead and two others are in critical condition after they were shot in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion section. Police said an SUV and car near 33rd and Diamond Streets were shot at, just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Benjamin Naish with Philadelphia police said, “They opened fire on both cars. They struck the car where the woman was killed multiple times.”24-year-old, Chaundrah Jones of Clifton Heights, was shot in the back and wrist. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

A Spotsylvania man is accused of killing his mother early Saturday outside a home in Oak Grove subdivision in the county, police said. Elijah Demont Smith, 21, is charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. His mother, Latoya Acree, 41, was shot in the driveway outside the home in the 6100 block of Pondoley Drive about 12:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Maj. Troy Skebo said.

Deputies went to the residence after receiving calls from a neighbor and someone inside the house, Skebo said. The suspect was gone when police arrived, but was apprehended without incident a short time later at a hotel in the Four Mile Fork area. Smith is being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. He was already free on bond on an assault and battery charge stemming from an Aug. 16 incident in Spotsylvania. A trial on that charge is scheduled for Oct. 19 in Spotsylvania General District Court.

A woman's shooting death on the city's east side Sunday is being investigated as a homicide, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced Monday.

Just after noon Sunday officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Rural Street and began a death investigation.  Monesha McKinley, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

During an autopsy the Marion County Coroner’s Office determined McKinley suffered gunshot injuries and police determined the case is a homicide, a news release issued Monday stated.

Kennedy Hobbs, an 18-year-old, died Tuesday, June 1, 2021, after a shooting at a gas station in the city, according to the Hinds County coroner. It happened at a Texaco station on Medgar Evers Boulevard and Sunset Drive. Dispatch reports indicate the first calls went out shortly before 11 p.m. after a firefighter across the street heard gunshots. Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said Hobbs was shot to death. Hobbs’ family said the teen had just graduated from Murrah High School earlier that day. The Jackson Police Department has not released any information about the circumstances of the teen’s death nor leads in the investigation. (Source: WLBT)

Police have identified the suspected gunman in the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman killed while walking home from her own baby shower in Harlem early Sunday. Shanice Young, 31, was just weeks away from giving birth when she was shot in the head in front of her building on West 128th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. It also happened right in front of her daughter. "A pregnant woman, coming home from her baby shower, who was shot and killed. In cold blood. By someone that she knew," NYPD Officer Amir Yakatally said.

The NYPD on Tuesday said they are searching for 40-year-old Justin Soriano, who is believed to have fired the fatal shot, and they're hoping an image of him will lead to an arrest. "He is someone who had a firearm and felt comfortable using it," Yakatally said. Yakatally is the commanding officer of the 32nd Precinct in Harlem and says that is the common thread linking his precinct's alarming rise in violent crime. Police say Soriano is the victim's ex-boyfriend.
