The Carbondale Police Department is still searching for suspects in the weekend shooting that claimed the life of a Southern Illinois University freshman. Nearly a week after gunshots erupted at a party on West Cherry Street, the Carbondale police chief is again asking those who were there to come forward with information.

The shooting happened around 3:12 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of West Cherry Street. SIU freshman Keeshanna Jackson was killed. She was just 18 years old. Three other people were injured, including 29-year-old Jyrin Blair of Marion, 23-year-old Raheem Sylas of Murphysboro and a juvenile.

Police and city officials have repeatedly asked anyone with information about the deadly incident to come forward and share what they know.

In a statement released Friday, Carbondale Police Chief Stan Reno asked anyone who was at the party and took photos or video to share those files with investigators, to help officers identify witnesses and suspects.

An Instagram influencer from Texas has been found dead in her apartment and the Florida man investigators believe killed her then stabbed himself to death, authorities said. The body of Jenae Gagnier, 33, was found in her apartment in Richmond, Texas, on Sunday. Known online as Miss Mercedes Morr, she had amassed 2.6 million followers on Instagram.

Gagnier’s father told multiple news outlets that he rushed to his daughter's apartment on Sunday, concerned that he had been unable to reach her on the phone all weekend. He found his daughter dead at the bottom of the stairs.

The Medical Examiner’s office determined Gagnier died by “strangulation and traumatic concussion.” The Richmond Police Department on Monday identified the suspect in her killing as 34-year-old Kevin Alexander Accorto, whose last known address was in Florida. The medical examiner determined he stabbed himself to death.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Loved ones were in Dellwood Wednesday night, holding a vigil for 13-year-old Nevaeh Smallwood. Her 15-year-old boyfriend is accused of shooting her to death Tuesday. At 3:50 p.m., officers were called to the 10200 block of Lynncrest Court for a reports of a person shot. When they arrived, Smallwood was found dead. Now, just a day later, instead of preparing to send Smallwood back to school, they are preparing for her funeral. Smallwood's boyfriend is in custody, but police haven't identified him at this point. As the man accused of shooting his wife to death faces a judge, the victim's family is speaking about the tense days their loved one faced leading up to her murder in a Katy-area neighborhood. The family held a memorial over the weekend for Valerie Junius, who deputies say was shot and killed by her husband. Family and neighbors gathered outside the home on Roaring Oaks Lane in Katy, where Junius was killed on Thursday. Her husband, Lawrence Reed, was arrested and charged with murder. He was due in a Harris County courtroom Monday. "She was going to leave him. She was tired," Treshawnda said. According to her cousin, Junius was staying in Chicago, where she's originally from, with family and friends for about a month. Her cousin said Junius returned home the day before she was murdered. Junius leaves behind six children, ranging in age from 20 to 4 years old. Two of the children were also struck by bullets and survived.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, July 18, 2021, in the 6100 block of 4th Street NW, Washington DC. At approximately 1:29 am, members of the Fourth District responded to the 6700 block of 5th Street NW, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Further investigation revealed the incident occurred in the 6100 block of 4th Street NW. The decedent has been identified as 29 year-old Dara Northern, of Northwest DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.

A 23-year-old New Jersey man was charged last week with the murders of his infant daughter and her maternal grandparents. In a statement, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office alleges that early last Friday morning, Michael Sanders set a home in Hamilton Township on fire. Flames engulfed the duplex within minutes, causing a partial roof collapse. Killed in the fire was 9-month-old Malani Sanders, according to the statement. The baby's grandmother, 42-year-old Tiffany Abrams-Jones, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, 50-year-old Prince Jones, was rushed to a nearby hospital. On Sunday, Jones died from injuries sustained in the fire.

Two other individuals residing in the home, including Malani's mother, are receiving treatment for critical injuries they suffered. Sanders was arrested Monday. He is charged with three counts each of murder, felony murder and aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated arson and one count of causing widespread injury or damage. Sanders has not yet entered pleas to those charges, and it was unclear if he has retained a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

The statement says investigators discovered surveillance video allegedly showing the suspect at a gas station shortly before the start of the fire. Neighborhood security cameras also filmed him heading towards the home and then going away from it. Before the fire was started, Sanders allegedly texted the baby's mother, telling her to get the infant out of the house. A motive has not been disclosed publicly. A GoFundMe campaign is seeking donations to pay for the three funerals.

A woman was shot and killed by a police officer Saturday afternoon during a Juneteenth parade in Flint after police said she pulled up and started shooting a police officer. Michigan State Police are investigating the tragic shooting and said the car pulled up to a Flint Police Officer working the Juneteenth parade route north of downtown Flint. It was around 2 p.m. when the 19-year-old Flint woman pulled up in her car and start firing at the officer. The officer fired back and hit the woman. She was taken to a Flint hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

On Monday, Michigan State Police identified her as 19-year-old Brianna Sykes, from Flint. An anonymous witness told ABC12 in Flint that he saw what happened and watched the officer break down after the shooting. "I saw an officer maybe ten feet to the left of me in front of a car with his gun out. I didn’t see if anybody shot out of the car but I did see the officer shoot into the car and I could tell that he, from his look, like he mortally wounded somebody. He instantly fell to the ground crying because I felt like he didn’t want to do whatever he had to do," ABC12 reported.

Video obtained by FOX 2 shows a silver car next to an officer, who has his gun out and pointed at the car. There is no audio but the officer can be seen talking and giving orders to the driver while keeping his weapon aimed at the car. The video then shows the officer firing at least two shots into the car, which then rolls away. The witness who shot the video then pans back where the officer is on his knees and being consoled by another officer. Police are still investigating what led to the shooting. Nobody else was in the car and nobody else was injured.

A Riverview father accused of going on a violent rampage that killed his 11-year-old daughter, seriously injured his 9-year-old son, and killed the mother of his children, made his first court appearance Tuesday.

Ronnie O'Neal III, 29, barely reacted as the judge read his charges: two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and arson.

According to newly-released court documents, the latter of those charges left O'Neal's arm badly burned and heavily bandaged.

A motion filed Tuesday indicates several neighbors told Hillsborough County detectives they either saw or heard O'Neal murder Kenyatta Barron, 33, the mother of his children.

Sophie Hartman, 31, entered the plea Thursday via Zoom in King County Superior Court to one count of second-degree child assault and one count of second-degree attempted child assault. According to court documents in the case, Hartman has cared for the adopted daughter and her older sister since 2015, when they came to the U.S. from Zambia. Hartman is white and both adopted daughters are Black, and Hartman formally adopted both of them in 2019. Her healthy 6-year-old adopted daughter to more than 470 unnecessary medical appointments and procedures, including surgeries, over a four-year period.

Aniya Allen, a 6-year-old girl who was shot in the head Monday evening, died of her injuries on Wednesday. The Minneapolis Police Department says the shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. on 3500 block of Penn Avenue North, in the city’s Folwell neighborhood. Relatives informed WCCO Wednesday morning that Allen died. Local peace activist KG Wilson says that the child injured in the overnight shooting is his granddaughter. She was riding in her family’s car as she and her mom drove back from McDonald’s when bullets started flying outside of their north Minneapolis home. One of those bullets hit Allen in the head.
