An Atlanta man was behind bars early Monday to face a first-degree murder charge after police investigated a homicide Sunday on the 1500 block of Calvin Street, Davenport. Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the area for a disturbance and found a gunshot victim, Wilanna S. Bibbs, 20, of Durham, N.C. Davenport Fire and Medic responded and pronounced her deceased.

Justin L. Wright, 31, of Atlanta, Ga., was arrested and booked into Scott County Jail at 12:36 a.m. Monday. A judge set the bond at $500,000 Monday morning for a suspect in a Davenport homicide police investigated Sunday. Detectives continue to investigate the incident. Victory Christian Church in Albany is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the murder of Chyna Forney. The 18-year-old high school senior was gunned down on Essex Street Monday afternoon.

Forney had her whole life ahead of her. She was about to graduate from Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls. She had plans of going to college to study nursing.

Anyone with information can call the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039, or submit an anonymous tip to Capital Region Crime Stoppers.

Saniyya Dennis, the New York college student who disappeared last month, died by apparent suicide, officials said Thursday. "It appears that this poor girl took her own life," Erie County District Attorney John Flynn told reporters during a morning news conference. While authorities have not located the 19-year-old's body, they were able to reach that conclusion based on a timeline of her last hours.

Flynn said on the afternoon of April 24, Dennis got into an argument with her boyfriend in New York City over the phone. After trying to contact him 59 times to no avail, she called another male friend in New York City and talked about killing herself, the DA said. However, the family demanded a federal investigation by the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.

“Given these variables and the fact that Saniyya’s body has not been discovered, we express great concerns about the handling of this case and the suicide narrative. Mr. Flynn purposefully placed Saniyya in a negative light as though she was a depraved stalker who harassed her boyfriend for attention,” the family statement said. “These dismissive acts caused victim blaming and shaming. It is unconscionable that he presented a speculative narrative as a factual one by calling a national press conference and falsely asserting he shared his findings with the family.”

Chicago's mayor says she's "heartbroken and angered" after a 7-year-old girl was shot and killed while in a car in broad daylight. The young girl, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Jaslyn Adams, was shot multiple times, and the man with her was shot in the torso, while in a car at about 4:18 p.m. Sunday on the city's West Side, the Chicago Police Department said. Jaslyn was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The 29-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition, police said. ABC Chicago station WLS reported that the victims were father and daughter and were in a McDonald's drive-thru at the time of the shooting. A McDonald's employee told WLS that two suspects jumped out of another car and ambushed the victims. Police said no suspects are in custody. (Article via Chicago News)

K’Mia Simmons loved ones are relieved by the arrest in her murder case, but now the long road to justice begins. Her older sister Lashawn Laster says the arrest however doesn’t lessen the sting of losing her sister.Laster and her mother Linda Simmons spoke with reporters after the St. Petersburg Police Department announced the arrest. 20-year old Tyron Jackasal is now facing robbery and first-degree murder charges.

Now, K’Mia’s family members are praying for justice. Simmons mother says she will not rest until her daughter’s killer meets his maker. “I want to be able to look in his eyes as he suffers. As they, however they execute him, I’m calling for execution,” said Simmons. “Y’all want to know what would make me happy? That would make me happy. Ok, that is the only thing that would make me happy. I need his life.”

A 9-year-old Brooklyn girl whose mom and two half-sisters were fatally gunned down by her dad hid in a closet and wept to a 911 operator, “Daddy was coming over for my birthday — and he shot people.’’ The stricken child’s “heartbreaking’’ emergency call was placed amid the bloodshed that occurred during the little girl’s birthday party in Brownsville on Monday night, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig told reporters Tuesday.

The bodies of two Florida teenagers were misidentified after they were killed in a car crash near Pensacola July 2019. The mistake wasn't caught until just before a wake, and not until after organs had been taken from the wrong body.

Now the families of 15-year-old Samara Cooks and 18-year-old Deleigha Gibson are suing Florida Highway Patrol, the county medical examiner's office and two funeral homes.

Deleigha's parents, Tammy and Demetrius Gibson, claim the director at another funeral home tried to switch the bodies back without their knowing.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a further review of the case is ongoing to verify additional information. The medical examiner's office told CBS News, "Our sympathies and support remain with the families." The funeral homes did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A local mom is thankful to be alive and tougher than she ever imagined after she was shot 11 times by an abusive ex-boyfriend last month in Chicago. “I just thank God I am here,” Lasonya Agee says. Agee is still being treated at a local hospital after the shooting, which occurred in the 7800 block of South Muskegon. She became involved in an argument with the man, who pulled out a gun and fired shots at her. She was hit 11 times and was taken to an area hospital. Two other people, Agee’s grandmother and her uncle were also shot after seeing the incident, and she believes they were deliberately targeted by the gunman. Agee says her ex is still on the run, and that she considers him to be extremely dangerous.

A South Carolina man is in custody for allegedly twice attacking his girlfriend and setting several fires because he was angry his $600 stimulus check was taken by the government to pay back child support.

At a news conference Friday, Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said 36-year-old Ray Michael Bradford Jr., of Spartanburg, has been charged with attempted murder, three counts of arson, and malicious destruction of property. The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports a magistrate judge Thursday denied bond. It was unknown if Bradford had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

In the statement, the family said it was "devastated" after learning that Smith's body was found in a suitcase Feb. 8. The 28-year-old was six months pregnant and expecting a baby boy, according to warrants.

"Our beautiful daughter, mother, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend was snatched away from our lives and the lives of her innocent children," the Smith family wrote Thursday. "She is no longer with us to laugh, cry, dance, change, and become a woman of her full potential. Her baby did not get the opportunity to grow, love, play, and get to know his brothers."

Smith's family had told authorities they last saw her alive on Feb. 4 in Wendell. The family said Thursday that it had to begin its own investigation because it felt its "concerns were not being heard" by authorities.

Two people were arrested Wednesday evening and charged with Smith's murder and that of her unborn child. The family did express gratitude for the sheriff office's work after the body was discovered that led to the arrests. "We want all parties involved in this crime to be found and prosecuted," the family wrote. "From accomplice to conspirator to murder, we want complete justice.

The two suspects, Thomas Johnson and Emmalei Trevathan, were formally charged in court Thursday. Authorities accused them of strangling Smith before stuffing her body in a purple suitcase and tossing it in the Neuse River. A judge ordered they be held in jail without bond. No plea has been entered.
