Aziza Murphy is a 28-year-old mother from Baltimore who just lost her job while fighting for her safety against her ex-boyfriend, who she says has been stalking her for nearly two months. After repeated threats and harassment of her and her family members, she has pleaded multiple times for Baltimore police to make an arrest, but the way the system works, she says, it is not set up to protect women–especially women of color.

Since he hasn’t necessarily been violent with her, she says police can really only take action if he’s caught in the act, but Aziza has evidence and recordings of him threatening her and even then, she says it’s not enough. She’s taken to social media to tell her story for fear that she’ll end up dead if something isn’t done.

It was on March 6, 2018, when a puzzling discovery was made on the side of the road. Jasmine Dunbar’s car was located with her seven-month-old daughter inside, sitting in her car seat, along with the missing woman’s personal belongings. Jasmine, however, was nowhere to be found. She was immediately reported missing and 24-hours later, her body was found. The Miami Herald reports that the missing mother’s remains were “significantly burned.”

Investigators learned that the last person Jasmine saw before her death was her 20-year-old ex-boyfriend, Antwaun Travon Ware. It didn’t take long for Ware to confess that on Tuesday, he and Jasmine agreed to meet up for a paternity test. Initially, he told police that he picked up Jasmine and the baby but after he and Jasmine got into an argument, he took them home. Later, AZ Central reports Ware admitted to punching “[Jasmine] multiple times with his fist” and leaving her in an empty Phoenix, Arizona field.

Then, Ware said Jasmine was beaten, but still alive when he just walked away from the scene. However, when he returned to check on her, she was dead. He decided to “put a piece of paper on her” before dousing her with gasoline. He lit her on fire with a cigarette. Ware told investigators that he stayed and watched as her body burned until the flames went out on their own. The police report states that Ware “panicked” and decided to take the seven-month-old to drop her off on the side of the road because “he saw people nearby and believed they would find her and take care of her.”

Ryan Chanel Reed told her father she would be back later one night to pick up her 10-year-old daughter in Hazel Crest – but the young mother never returned. Her body was discovered just a few hours later in nearby Harvey, Illinois. Her family told CBS 2’s Jermont Terry they want justice. Meanwhile, police are stumped how the woman got where her body was found. Police said the 27-year-old showed up to work at Navy Federal Credit Union on Gardens Park Boulevard around 9 a.m. but never made it through the front door. Investigators said her husband, Sylvester Ofori, shot and killed her just outside the credit union’s door. Police said the shooting was captured on security footage. “You can tell that she’s trying to get inside. Unfortunately, he shoots her outside of the establishment,” Police Chief Orlando Rolon said. Detective Matthew Rogers said in a news conference Wednesday morning that Ofori, who is a pastor at a local church, surrendered peacefully at the apartment he once shared with Barbara.

Ronnika Richburg was just trying to start over. After a rocky seven-year relationship with the father of her child, the suburban New Orleans woman had moved on. She started a successful hairstyling business from her home in Avondale, just outside New Orleans. She was actually doing a client’s hair when chaos violently erupted the day. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office alleges that on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, Lloyd Jones, 42, burst into Richburg’s home and cornered her in a bathroom before shooting her dead. The 32-year-old woman died at the scene. Her mother’s boyfriend, who was also in the home, was shot as well and is recovering.  Jones sped off in a dark-colored GMC pickup truck. The Sheriff’s  Office is asking anyone with information on Jones’ whereabouts to call the agency at (504) 364-5300 or the local chapter of Crimestoppers at (504)  822-1111. Tipsters may be eligible for a $5,000 reward.

Zarrie Allen was a first-year student at Sacramento State University who wanted to help people by becoming a nurse. The 18-year-old Richmond, California native was running track last year for the Oakland Police Activities League (PAL). She was also involved in her church. Zarrie was shot dead on Monday, July 20, 2020, in a graveyard in what local police describe as a drive-by shooting. They do not believe that Zarrie was the intended target and that she perhaps was hit by a stray bullet. But family and friends just want to know what really happened.

Chatéri Payne, 22, was gunned down shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. At the time of the shooting Officer Payne, who was in uniform, was headed in to work her overnight shift. She died after being taken to Ochsner LSU Health hospital. Payne graduated from the police academy in November 2018. “There was excitement in her eyes about her chosen career to serve others. She willingly took the oath to serve Shreveport,” said Police Chief Raymond. Three people have been arrested and charged on suspicion of the murder of a Louisiana police officer who was shot outside her home. One of the suspects is the victim's boyfriend.
