A lot of what we do and talk about is linked in some way to our social identity. It is framed on the backdrop of belong-ing. Race, gender, sexuality, job, family, class, living location, religion, etc. Some of these are traits and characteristics we have no choice over while can be considered more to be life decisions. What drives what we do? What are our aims and purposes? Are they extrinsic? The external byproducts of the work we do, like money, fame and glory? We all have artists living within. Being one has nothing to do with the work we do for money. It is about our attitude to the world and people around us. In this episode I share 5 reasons we should stop thinking of art in terms of a career for the lucky and talented few, and start seeing it as an attitude that we all have access to. Culture is a reflection. It mirrors the priorities and values of those who model it. And in turn those who model it reflect the priorities and values of the culture. It is important to recognise that leadership is about modelling culture. A follower does as their leader does, not just as they say, especially now when actions cannot be readily hidden from public view.

Even as reluctant leaders, when we recognise something wrong in the world we must first turn the mirror upon ourselves and ask questions about the part we play in creating/fertilising the problems. It is no good pointing fingers of blame to external sources of the problem. Leadership is about taking responsibility and modelling a new way out of the current perception of the current reality.
