The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

I swear we tried to make an effort to NOT talk about Rob's bowels this week. But then... well.. you'll hear. Florida Man also didn't help us avoid butt talk this week.

In the meantime, we review Terminator: Dark Fate, which has criminally under performed at the box office.

We also talk music! Jimmy brings Year of the Cobra to our attention and I respond in kind by introducing him to Dirty Honey. There is also some concert talk since I got the see The Black Keys.

Finally, Rob somehow remembered that he saw Maleficent 2, and gives us an impromptu review.

Our question of the week is what are the 5 "best" sequels that completely erased crappy movies that came before them?

Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. So go ahead and buy that Nicholas Cage Mermaid Pillow you definitely need.

Happy Halloween!

For Halloween this year, we have invited author / screenwriter Joe Ballarini to join us. His series The Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting released book 3 in July and a film is currently in production at Netflix. He talks about the writing process, what it's like to adapt a book into a screenplay and his future feud with RL Stein. (Note: The Give Me Five Podcast will 100% be the reason for said feud)

He also joins us for our review of 1987's Monster Squad. A favorite movie of ours and his. For once it was nice to have someone join us who actually knows what he's talking about, although I think there were still a few fart jokes.

There are two questions of the week.

For Joe- What media franchises would you love to write for?

For US- Who are the 5 best Draculas

Jimmy is back from London and he brought back a lovely British sense of humor, and some strong opinions on Dead Don't Die, a zombie film starring everyone.

The Watchmen tv show (HBO) is here and Greg saw it, so he lets us know if it lives up to the comic or the movie. So far so good.

Rob and Greg saw a midnight showing of Bride of Re-animator and got a chance to talk about the film, and the benefits of going to see bad movies with friends. (particularly friends that buy the drinks)

Our question of the week is canceled and replaced with TOP 10 travel tips for the UK!

We started the Give Me Five Podcast to give visibility to the things we love. Sometimes we cover mainstream movies, tv, streaming and sometimes we cover people with huge talent that should be mainstream.

Every so often we run into people with so much talent, we know that we have to feature them on an episode. Matt and Eryn O'Ree are 2 members of the Matt O'Ree band out of New Jersey. They play blues and rock music and recently released 2 brand new singles "Without You" and “Through Time With You”. They have also recorded / toured / written with Bruce Springsteen, Billy Corgan, Bon Jovi, and John Ginty.

They recently spoke with us and talked about their musical history, how they met and the other musicians they have played with.

Jimmy is across the pond, which is a fancy way of saying that Rob and Greg have literally no adult supervision. So what do they do?

They talk about Chopping Mall! A 1986 horror film that features killer robots, radical hair, and partying in a furniture store. But is it a fun watch or is Rob going to be surly for an hour?

Speaking of surly, Greg checked out Joker and will attempt to give a low spoiler review. It's mostly in the trailer, so I doubt too much will be spoiled.

Finally a little bit of Halloween, as greg mentions a new tradition, reading A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny one chapter a night throughout October.

And of course our question of the week: What are the top 5 best movie robots from the 1980s?
