The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

We are back after taking a week off for the Podcast Movement conference, and while we were gone there was a ton of news. The thing on most people's minds was the "divorce" between Disney and Sony relating to the Spider-man films. How will that play out?

Then we take a look at the weird life and weirder documentary from The Amazing Johnathon, available on Hulu.

Continuing our 80's summer movie extravaganza we feature Weird Al Yankovic's UHF. An underrated comedy gem that features quirky comedians galore

And of course our question of the week: What are the top 5 parody movies?

Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. So go ahead and buy that Unicorn Head Squirrel Feeder you've always wanted.

We planned on talking about a fairly offensive show (The Boys) without or most offensive host (Rob) but things didn't turn out that way. Rob returned early from the cast preview of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios Orlando, and we let him join the show. Well, provided that he spoke about his time at the park.

As for topics? We've got a new Tool track (Fear Innoculum), the aforementioned The Boys, and even a fun little game called Pokemon or Prescription Medicine. Having trouble sleeping? Try Snorlax!

Continuing our 80's summer movie extravaganza we feature Mark Harmon's Summer School. A movie that reminds us that teacher student relations were a bit different in the pre-internet days.

And of course our question of the week: Who are the 5 best foreign exchange student characters in film and tv?

We have a very special guest this week, Synthwave artist / human F-14 Tomcat, Moondragon joins us to review his 80's movie of the week, 1981's The Final Countdown. A tale of a modern day aircraft carrier breaching a rift in time and ending up at Pearl Harbor right before the Japanese attack. Sounds badass right? It isn't.

Ww also interview Moondragon about his music, F-1 racers, soundtracks, video games and his path into the Synthwave genre (and if he even likes that term) Stay tuned after the show to hear the title cut off his new album Oceana.

We don't stay in the 80's. Greg reviews the "Tarantino Charles Manson flick" Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. How did Tarantino manage to build a story adjacent to the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders and was it respectful to the victims.

Rob gives a Floridian review to the alligator horror film Crawl, and of course we have some weird Florida news for you.

Then this week's question:

What are the best military themed movies from the 80's?

This week Rob has the microphone and as a result we get a 30 minute rant about how much Disney screwed the uh... hyena with the latest "live action" film The Lion King. He also made us watch Beastmaster, just in case we don't remember it from it being on TV 24/7 in the 1980s. We do make an effort to class up the joint with The Last Czars, a fairly factually inaccurate but entertaining Netflix docudrama about the end of the Romanov Dynasty.

Then the usual Florida craziness, San Diego Comic Con News (lots of Marvel surprises, including Blade!) and of course our question of the week:

The summer of 80's movies continues! Jimmy got the pick, and quite frankly things get weird. He chose Sleepaway Camp, with its Long Island accents, age-inappropriate relationships and crazy twists. The boy ain't right.

A few quick hits as well, Jimmy covers the re-release of Committed to a Bright Future by Dog Fashion Disco, Rob covers Holy Sister book 3 of the Book of the Ancestor series, and Greg takes on the Battle of the 80's Supercars.

We also talk about weird Florida stuff, which isn't half as weird as Sleepaway Camp, and that is saying quite a bit.

Then this week's question:

Rank the 5 best 80's movie and tv cars?
