The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

You want diversity? How about Incredibles 2 and Slayer in the same episode. Does Incredibles 2 live up to the original and the 14 year wait? Did Greg have culture shock watching Slayer and Lamb of God then waking up the next morning to see Incredibles? Jimmy checked out Oceans 8 and gave it a date night thumbs up. Rob snuck a review of Hotel Artemis and gave it a "wait for Netflix".

We also got a brief rundown of E3 as only we can do. (poorly). And chatted about the continuing saga of Moviepass!

Our question of the week is:

What are your favorite superhero movies and TV shows that didn't originate in the comics?

Segment Times

  Oceans 8 - 23:34 Surprise Hotel Artemis Review from Rob - 30:16 Slayer - 35:31 Surprise Game! Slayer lyric or Bible Verse - 44:42 E3 - 49:27 Incredibles - 58:36 The Question - 1:15:21

Jimmy hates pancakes. That's really all that matters.

But, we should really talk about this title. Turns out that 2 of the 3 of us can't do the thing integral to an audio only show, speak actual words. So join us if only to mock us.

Anyway, we saw and got freaked out by Hereditary (except Rob but he has no soul and sees decapitated bodies all the time) After a 3 week delay we finally talked about Batman: Ninja and Jimmy found out that Chino Moreno (of the Deftones) recorded a song for a comic soundtrack

Then of course the question of the week:

What are the 5 best debut films from first-time directors?

We did it again, we went long while talking about Solo. The criminally underrated, very fun Star Wars spin off movie. We talk about the surprises, the action and the new characters. We also spend some time chatting about Netflix original "Cargo". I'm pretty sure we talked about discontinued foods that we miss / love, but it was late and I can't be trusted.

Then of course the question of the week:

What are the 5 characters that need spin-off movies?

and

What 5 characters definitely DO NOT need spin-off movies?

(I'm looking at you, Short Round)

The massive comic / sci-fi / cosplay / anime / gaming / wrestling convention known as Megacon has come and gone, and we were there. We will bring you stories from the floor, some news, and interviews with some very cool creators.

We had very interesting conversations with professional cosplayer and all-around nice person, Rachul Moore (http://www.raychul.com/)

In the artist realm we got a chance to talk to Korgi artist/writer Christian Slade, (http://www.christianslade.com/), Lady Mechanika artist Joe Benitez (http://www.joebenitez.com/ ) and the artist of the upcoming web series "Star Circuit" (https://starcircuitcomic.com/about/) Joe Catapano (https://www.artstation.com/catapanoart)

We also checked in with the creators of other cool memoribilia, like battle-ready lightsabers from Vader's Vault (http://vadersvault.com/) and Brian Colin from Creature Curation (https://creaturecuration.com/)

And Rob ate too much fudge.

15:10 Raychul Moore (Cosplayer) 30:33 Joe Benitez (Lady Mechanika) 38:08 Christian Slade (Korgi, Brother Bear) 56:30 Joe Catapano (Star Circuit, Marvel Sketch Cards) 1:16:59 Allan Johnson (Vader's Vault) 1:27:53 Brian Colin (Creature Curation) Opening track: Running in the Night by FM-84 featuring Ollie Wilde) Available at Bandcamp (https://fm84.bandcamp.com/album/atlas)

Deadpool 2 made us punchy this week. Which I suppose is better than the things it could have done to us. We discuss at length all the things we loved about Deadpool 2. The humor, the surprises, the cameos, and of course the violence. We chat for so long that our other topics got the shaft. I blame Rob.

Next week we will try to behave like adults and will talk about Batman: Ninja (on Blu Ray) and Cargo (on Netflix). Feel free to watch them as your homework

Then of course the question of the week:

What are your 5 favorite "Break the 4th Wall" moments in Movies?

Segment times:

13:06- Death Metal Band real or not?

24:56 - Deadpool 2

1:12:51 - Brief description of Cargo and assignment

1:13:54 - Batman Ninja preview and assignment   1:15:16 - Breaking the Fourth Wall question
