The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

When the trailer for Cobra Kai dropped, we immediately realized that it was the Karate Kid spin-off that we needed in our lives. Then we asked, "What the hell is youtube red?". Cobra Kai follows Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso in the years following the huge upset at the 1984 under 18 All-Valley Karate Tournament. Things aren't great for Johnny, but for Daniel and the viewers things are pretty great.

We also check in on 2 recent comedies "Life of the Party" and "Overboard"

Then of course the question of the week:

What are some concerns you had as a kid that turned out to be not so concerning as an adult? (ninja gangs!)

Every summer (and late spring) the movie studios roll out the blockbuster films. Huge films with big names and bigger special F/X hit the theaters each week. So which films will be the biggest hits? Which ones looks good / bad / entertaining / silly? The Give Me Five Podcast exhaustively broke down almost all of the summer releases and gave our opinions. From Jurassic World to Skyscraper to Antman and the Wasp, we checked out trailers, news articles, interviews and Rob even contacted some shady guy that said he's Tom Cruise's 3rd cousin. (apparently Mission Impossible Fallout has aliens)

Then of course the questions of the week:

1. Biggest hit of summer? (movie that makes the most related to budget)

2. Biggest bomb of summer? (movie that makes the least depending on budget)

3. Biggest surprise of summer? (movie not expected to do well, but does)

4. Stand-out performance of summer? (actor / actress that transcends the summer movies)

5. Best film of summer from a critical standpoint?

We have a store! Check out our shirts, mugs, bags and phone cases here: Buy cool crap!

10 years ago a man in an iron suit walked out of a cave and into our hearts. Robert Downey Jr. became Tony Stark and the seeds of the Marvel cinematic universe were planted. With the 19th film in that universe the stakes are even higher. Did Marvel create an epic masterpiece by combining all of our favorite characters in one film, or did it leave a little to be desired.

Who lived? Who died? Who won? Who had the best quips? Was that really a character from Arrested Development?

There will be mega spoilers in this episode, so be warned.

Then of course the question of the week what are your top 5 Marvel Movie Moments?

Westworld is back! And we are not nearly clever enough to decipher all of the philosophical quandaries posed in the first episode of season 2, and quite frankly that's the fun.

In fact the episode is unintentionally dedicated to things that take way to long to come out, like the new A Perfect Circle album, Eat the Elephant, the movie Super Troopers 2, and a brief conversation on the next Game of Thrones book.

We also briefly discuss The Titan, which is about as much time as it deserves.

Then of course the question of the week which is "Your Top 5 Sketch Comedy Troupes/Shows"

While there are far more qualified people out there to chat about wrestling, the Andre the Giant Documentary on HBO convinced us to look back at some of our favorite wrestlers from the 1980's and 1990's. While not a pure wrestling conversation, we did get to chat about the amazing life and sad death of Andre the Giant.

Somehow we are more qualified to talk about The Walking Dead season 8 and the season 8 finale, even though we are not zombies and would probably not fair very well in a zombie apocalypse.

We also touched on Aliens, The Rock n Roll Hall of fame and the 1000th issue of Action Comics (Superman)

Also, we are big liars, we got so involved with chatting about other stuff, that we had to bump our conversation about Netflix's The Titan. Maybe next time.

Then of course the question of the week which is "Who are the 5 most influential wrestlers of all time?"

Segment times:
