This week James, Jerah, and Jonathan review the 2007 film “The Great Debaters,” directed by and starring Denzel Washington. It’s about a poet and professor, Melvin B. Tolson who teaches at Wiley College in Texas in 1935. He starts a debate team and they eventually become the first Black team to Challenge Harvard. The movie also stars Forest Whitaker, Nate Parker, Jurnee Smollett, Denzel Whitaker, John Heard, and Kimberly Elise.
