And all of that while he was serving in pastoral ministry. Not kidding. Nate lived a lie for decades and it was eating him up on the inside, but he couldn't stop it on his own.

Reason #1 ... I want to live a Christian life that pleases God and brings Him glory.

Reason #2 ... Because I'm a new creation in Christ and I need to live like it.

2 Cor. 5:17; Rom. 6:5-11; Gal. 2:20; Ezek. 36:26-27

Reason #3 ... Because its cheating on God (spiritual adultery).

Jer. 3:20; 9:2; Ezek. 16:30-34; Hos. 4:10-12; 5:3

Reason #4 ... Because I'm going to stand before God and give account of my Christian life.

Reason #5 ... Because it's unmanly. A real man is devoted to one woman (his wife) and he doesn't objectify, exploit, or use women for his selfish pleasure.

The manliest thing you’ll ever do in your Christian life is love (AGAPE) other human beings the way that God loves you.

It’s the truth.

I honestly can’t think of anything manlier than that. You can have the biggest and strongest muscles, hunt polar bears with a pocket knife, ink up your whole body with skulls and dragons and tribal symbols, become a Brazilian jui jitsu master who then becomes a Navy SEAL, earn yourself 3 PHDs, write 10 NY Times best selling books, and accumulate a net worth of over one billion dollars $$$$$ …

But you wanna know what God says about all of that? …

He says if you don’t love other human beings the way that He loves you … then you will ultimately end up building nothing, being nothing, and gaining nothing. Absolutely nothing. You will miss the main point of your Christian life and you don’t want that. I don't want that. AGAPE!

Most American men are living a pretty safe and comfortable lifestyle. They're addicted to their temperature-controlled, overfed, sheltered, safety-netted lives. They don't like to be pushed outside of their comfort zones ... but what if that's a big contributing factor to what's wrong with us? I don't know about you, but I can be pretty self-focused, self-absorbed, and self-exalting. It's pretty easy for me to make life all about ME (SELFIE)! ... My needs ... my wants ... my desires ... my ambitions ... my dreams ... my goals ... my success ... my comfort ... my happiness ... my fame ... my status ... my popularity ... my position ... my preeminence ... my glory!

That "selfie" mindset and pursuit comes so natural to me and I know it does for you too.

Most men (even many Christian men ... even many Christian leaders) are living a life all about selfie ... but God has called us to pursue something much bigger and better than that, and that's what I want to rip into for Part 2 of Death to Selfie.
