Young Hunter fuses heavy psych with the soul of a poetic, desert-nomad balladeer...and we hung out with 80% of them this week! Ben, Sara, Erik, and Sam popped in to talk about the viability of CDs as weapons, unabashed lyrical earnestness, and the vanishing pleasures of a loose cigarette. We also touched on side projects like SOMNA, Erik and Sam's prog/thrash avalanche. Young Hunter's most recent release "Dayhiker" is a Haute Garbage favorite and is available on bandcamp. Beat maker, DJ, visual artist (and skateboard artist) Northern Draw hangs loose this week. A man of many parts, Northern Draw curates the monthly beat showcase Thirsty City at the White Owl Social Club and hosts KBOO's "The Movement" show each Sunday in addition to churning out dope grooves and honing his artistic craft. His latest single "Blanc!" drops on vinyl June 26, and you can see him spin that night at Thirsty City. Peppered into our typical nonsense this week are some gems about the important link between skate and hip-hop cultures, what it means to be more artist than musician, and Drew's troubling willingness to eschew a proper bathroom.
