"There's almost no limit to how much we can change when our eyes are opened."
-Alan Wright
Today, I speak to Alan Wright, Pastor, and Author of "Seeing as Jesus Sees: How a New Perspective Can Defeat the Darkness and Awaken Joy," about a little prayer that changed everything for him. When I received his book on my birthday, I was immediately drawn to the title. Having spent the day praying about what my next year might hold for me, I felt his book was a little nod from God. I wrote in my journal, "Today, I start praying this little prayer, 'Jesus how do you see this?'" Alan writes, "Seeing is what matters. What we see. How we see. If we see."
Part 1's podcast prompt: "The spiritual battle is a fight for our vision." What are your thoughts about the idea that "seeing things anew through Jesus' eyes can change any of us...in an instant."

"With the overwhelming pace of life, many of us struggle to stop long enough to be present. Our long to-do lists and full calendars leave little breathing room to hear from God. We know we need to slow down but we don't even know how to begin."
Today's guest, Alan Fadling, has spent years coaching leaders and communities on how to live an unhurried life, teaching that productivity and success are not our chief end, but rather living at the pace that our true self longs to live. In this episode, Alan shares how we can train to be unhurried and when we do, we begin to see what matters to God. Alan asks an important question, "To what degree am I letting my life be shaped by the values of Jesus and to what degree am I letting it be shaped by the culture around me?"
Alan Fadling is president and founder of Unhurried Living, Inc. in Mission Viejo, California. He speaks and consults internationally. He is an award-winning
author of An Unhurried Leader and An Unhurried Life, which was honored with a Christianity Today Award of Merit in spirituality. He is also coauthor (with Gem Fadling) of What Does Your Soul Love?

"Jesus lives at the pace of his father's priorities."
-Alan Fadling, A Year of Slowing Down
In this episode, I am joined by guest Alan Fadling, the author of A Year of Slowing Down: Daily Devotionals for Unhurried Living. Alan and I discuss the concept of unhurried living and the importance of slowing down to notice and prioritize what truly matters in life. Alan shares his experiences from an 8-day silent retreat and highlights the value of being present and unhurried. We explore the idea that Jesus lived at the pace of his father's priorities and how we can cultivate an unhurried life through contemplative practices and intentional reflection.

Has self-doubt about your capabilities, giftings, or qualifications ever held you back from a job or service? Is low self-esteem or self-worth keeping you from shining your light in your spheres of influence?
I sure have. This phenomenon is called Imposter Syndrome and in Part 2 of my conversation with Joanna Meyer, author of Women, Work, and Calling: Step Into Your Place in God's Word, Joanna guides us in understanding how to overcome this obstacle.

Joanna Meyer, author of "Women, Work, and Calling: Step Into Your Place in God's World," is with us this week to share a vital message: The world needs who God made you to be!" Since 2015, Joanna has had the privilege of leading the Denver Institute for Faith & Work's programming for Christian women about work and calling. Her commitment flows from the belief that work plays a critical role in God's mission. To demonstrate the breadth and nuance of God's character, we need women and men to be vitally engaged in workplaces, homes, and organizations across our communities, utilizing the full extent of their God-given gifts.

This episode is a bit longer than our normal show, but it includes two meditative "A.W. E." Canvas Method exercises led by Jake Eagle, co-author of The Power of AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose In Less Than One Minute a Day." Jake writes, "A.W.E. counters the busy, distressing ways we carry out our lives even when pandemics and riots are not taking place. A.W.E. is a reprieve, a respite from the constant striving we undertake, sometimes just to prove ourselves worthy. Over time, A.W.E. unshackles us from this endless cycle of achievement and self-improvement. We may still achieve and improve but without the endless striving."
One of the greatest expressions of love is to "above all else, take care of your heart" (Proverbs 4:23), so as we learn this new language of love this season, let us learn how to love ourselves in all the right ways.

What might happen in our world and the bigger world if we, as followers of the Jesus Way, release His power in our lives?
As you know, I've been on a journey to learn more about the depths of God's love towards me.
Real love.
Unconditional love.

Love is God's language.
On a plane ride home, I watched a charming Netflix movie, "Love at First Sight," and was gripped by the last line, "We all have a choice to love every day."
We all have a choice to love every day.
Yet, so many in our world make a choice to hate every day.
Just turn on the news.

The Enneagram is one of the primary tools of my private practice. I've never found another personality typing system that gets to the "motive of our heart" like the Enneagram. It isn't the Bible or even the "gospel of personalities," but it is a useful tool that helps us build stronger relationships. In Part 2, Spiritual Director, Marilyn Vancil, author of "Beyond the Enneagram," shares how the Enneagram guides us home, toward our Authentic Self.
5 themes of this episode:
1. Understanding the Enneagram: The episode focuses on the Enneagram as a system for understanding one's motives and actions. Marilyn Vansel discusses its role in her book and how it can help individuals become healthier and move from an unhealthy to a healthy state.
2. Courage and Inner Strength: Janell emphasizes the need for courage and inner strength on the journey to soul restoration. She references C. S. Lewis and Parker J. Palmer, highlighting the bravery required to face challenges and the transformative power of the Enneagram.
3. Secure Attachment and Ego Strength: The importance of secure attachment in developing ego strength is explored. Janell discusses how secure attachment in a family setting allows individuals to feel safe, express themselves, and confidently explore the world, leading to a strong sense of self and resilience in handling failure.
4. Overcoming Negative Beliefs and Patterns: Janell encourages listeners to explore the origins of negative beliefs and how they are nurtured and reinforced over time. They draw parallels between negative thought patterns and oldies but goodies songs, suggesting the power of nostalgia in reinforcing negative beliefs. Overcoming these patterns requires acknowledging and examining them.
5. Spiritual Transformation and Union with God: The episode delves into the concept of spiritual transformation and union with God. The speaker reflects on their own spiritual journey, referencing books by Robert Mulholland and discussing the Trinity's representation of love. They emphasize the importance of ongoing conversations, learning, and seeking spiritual direction for growth and improvement.
