It was hard to choose the name of this episode. At first, I thought, "The State of Your Soul Address," but then, as the editing continued, it really became about befriending the hurting parts of your soul. The keyword here is, "befriending." Today, in Part 1, Kimberly Miller, co-author of "Boundaries for Your Soul," guides us into a more thorough understanding of Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) + the content of her book, "Boundaries for the Soul." This powerful conversation helps us become stronger every day of our "Summer of Reset."

We continue our heartlifting journey through Janell's newest book, "Stronger Every Day: 9 Tools for an Emotionally Healthy You," and dig deep into Tool 5, "Speak Healing Words to Your Future." With candor and grace, Janell opens her heart and shares a Jesus encounter her senior year in college that changed everything. Until now, she's kept this close to heart, but in writing the book, felt compelled it was necessary to open the closet door of her heart and let the skeletons out. As George Bernard Shaw once said, "If you can't get rid of the family skeleton, you might as well make it dance." Today, Janell uses her choreographic skills + mental health practices and teaches her skeletons to dance gracefully and wholeheartedly.

In this short(er) teaching moment, Know Your Own Voice, Janell shares the powerful tool of John 10:1-21, and how it has helped her learn to "hear" and "discern" and "recognize" the voice of God in her own life. There are so many voices: the voices of critics, social media trolls, unhealthy parents/family lineage, unhealthy coaches, etc. whose words get wired into our thought processes--resulting in negative narratives that block us from becoming stronger every day. Today, we learn the valuable lesson of hearing only TRUTH, not LIES, about who we are.

We are diving deep into TOOL 3: Shape Healthy Thoughts (Cognitive Reframing) and challenging ourselves to take one full day to examine our thoughts and thought processes. Take much-needed time to "notice" any cognitive distortions, or "faulty thinking," i.e., "stinking thinking." We also ask, "Am I living my God-breathed story or settling for second best?" As Janell guides you to "think, speak, hear, and know" yourself, your capacity to lead and guide YOURSELF will grow like a beautiful garden.

Erica and Janell both know that "LETTING GOD BE ENOUGH," is the highest and most powerful "secure attachment" we can possess and talk candidly about the difficulty of actually "letting God be enough."

Secure attachment is our birthright. Yet, statistics reveal that <55% of the human population receive this as a child. Why is that? In today's episode, Janell opens a heartfelt, sensitive conversation about the effects of not receiving "secure attachment." A little more candid, less polished, Janell speaks from the deepest part of her soul. She also offers HOPE and HEALING words that will guide you to "earning secure attachment," if, in fact, you haven't been given that gift.
