  • To Bleed or Not to Bleed? Getting Educated on Period Suppression | Endometriosis | PMS | PMDD | PCOS | Natural Solutions
On the podcast this month I’m talking about menstrual suppression: Why menstruators choose to suppress their periods and what happens when we do.
On the blog, I wanted to review your natural options for period problems.
Depending on where you stand with your reasons and needs, there are solutions specific to your needs.
As a Doctor of Natural Medicine in Quantum Medicine, I look at disorders through a wider lens than just the physical realm. I look at the energetics of your physical and subtle body. I believe that to every physical ailment there is an energetic component, and by looking at and clearing that component, you’re on your way to wellness.
    Endometriosis
Endometriosis is one the most painful issues when it comes to cycle health. It can mean days and sometimes weeks of laying on the floor in pain. It means missing days of work, inability to function or be a “normal” part of society. The worst part of it might be that most menstruators who share their symptoms with their doctor are turned away for many years without their condition being diagnosed. They’re told there’s nothing they can do, they’re put on the pill, have surgeries to remove the lesions, or end up having a hysterectomy.
On her blog, Lara Briden talks about Endometriosis as an auto-immune disease. Her book, Period Repair Manual is filled with amazing information and suggestions.
When you start looking at endometriosis as an auto-immune disease, it becomes much simpler (not necessarily easier) to work with. An auto-immune or an anti-inflammatory diet is one of the best places to start.
When it comes to energetically looking at this disorder we must look at the inflammation and the additional growth in inappropriate places. Energetic & emotional patterns: lacking sweetness in your life, feeling insecure about being a woman and therefore overly pushing in different areas of your life, frustration, intense anger.
    PCOS
I will once again refer to Lara Briden (she’s a total rock star when it comes to these issues) so I will recommend reading about PCOS on her blog. If you’ve been diagnosed with PCOS I recommend finding out the cause of this issue. What exactly is going on within your body? A great way of finding this out is by tracking your daily morning temperatures to find out if and when you ovulate. Charting your cycles will give you a wonderful inside look at what’s going on within your body and your hormone levels without too many tests.
As for the energetic aspect of PCOS, we’ll be looking at how well you identify with being female, do you feel victimized at all? Do you feel angry at the patriarchy (who doesn’t these days?)? How satisfied do you feel in your creativity and sexuality? What’s your sense of responsibility? Did you have to play both the parental and maternal roles in your family growing up? Do you play those roles now?
    PMS & PMDD
PMS is kind of the general syndrome all women are expected to experience during their fertile years. It has been played off as totally normal. However, it is common but not normal. PMS covers a bunch of symptoms like bloating, back pain, acne, cramps, moodiness, headaches and some other ones. But like all other issues, this is your body’s way of communicating with you. From a nutritional point of view, basic supplements like Magnesium and B6 can be total miracle cures for PMS. Supplements and nutrition can be understood better when looking at...

  • Emerging: Cycles, Ovulation, Moon Cycle & Goals
We are constantly cycling- we cycle in our day to day lives, whether it be from the moment we wake to the moment we wake the next day, or from the time we get home to the next time we get home, a cycle is a segment of time in which a series of events happen. Women happen to cycle within their bodies as well. We have an internal on-going system that cycles in order to reproduce or create something in this world.
The moon also cycles- the moon has a 27.3 day cycle. It starts dark and grows to a beautiful round ball of light, and then slowly wanes and disappears again. What happens with the moon, also happens within our bodies; we shed our uterine wall, and then we get big and bright like the full moon, followed by a steady warm phase and then we shed all over again.
How does knowing what’s happening in our cycles help us live our lives? How does “syncing” with the moon support our goals? and what does “syncing” with the moon look like?
In this episode, I discuss these topics and give you support around listening internally; tuning into the energies within us and supporting our growth from a place of internal confidence, rather than an externally motivated place.

  • Breathing through the snow… thriving this holiday season | holistic living
Oh oh oh! Merry ….. [insert open mouth emoji…]
It’s that time of year again… the time of year when everyone tells us we should be happy, delighted and cheerful… the time of year when we should be closest to our family, see our friends and have an abundant amount of money to buy gifts with (not to mention time to go shopping [thank you Amazon…]) and fit into our favorite outfit while stuffing our faces with pie, turkey and mashed potatoes… wait, what??
Reality check- most of us are still working, washing dishes, doing laundry, picking up kids from school… we still have to live our day to day lives, and feelings arise like this is the first holiday season without [mom, dad, aunt, uncle, wife, husband etc.]. So how do we handle it?
Tune into this month’s podcast to some support around breathing, taking breaks and asking, “how important is it?” when it comes to all this intensity around the holidays.

  • The Frequency of Your Foundation
Most of us already know that the first chakra is our foundation. It is the groundwork for the other chakras to rest on.
The frequency of our first chakra sets the way for how easy, hard, comfortable, uncomfortable, etc. it is to be ourselves and live our lives.
    But what is that frequency?
In my latest podcast, I’ll guide you through a quick exercise to find out what that frequency is, and give you a couple of tips on how to shift it (if needed) or use it (if it’s strong already).
I’ll also be sharing my new Healthy Periods program!

  • 5 days to building better connections | asking for help | feeling worthy
This episode took a while to put together: I had to have a lot of awareness around my discomfort around asking for help.
When we think about asking for help, we think it implies that we are: weak, lost, incapable, stupid, imperfect… and therefore unworthy…
The funny thing is that we constantly strive for better relationships, for deeper relationships. We expect others to open up to us, to come to us for support, for care, we love giving those things- but if we expect these things, we can only assume others expect these things as well? So why is it so hard for us to receive what it’s so easy for us to give? Are we willing to give others the opportunity to be of service to us? Are we willing to allow others to get to know us better? Are we willing to be vulnerable, open and raw with others?
The 5-Day Challenge to Building Better Relationships

    * Write a list of 5 items you need help with (stuff you’ve wanted to get done, stuff you don’t want to do alone, or you find challenging getting to- for whatever reason).
    * Next to each of these items, write a person’s name who you think would be ideal for the task! Someone who may maybe/possibly be excited to do this kind of stuff!
    * Each day, for 5 days, text, email, facebook message, Instagram tag or call this person, and ask them to help you!

For example: “Hey Susan, I got my new phone months ago and I can’t seem to figure out how to get my music to work on it! I know you’re really into music, you always have the best playlists! Would you be willing to show me how to do it?”

It can also be something that seems totally crazy, like, “Rob, I’m so tired and overworked, would you be willing to come do my dishes?”
    * BONUS: you get extra credit if you don’t offer anything in return! Meaning you don’t say, “if you come over to help me, I’ll be happy to make lunch!”
    * When you complete each day post something about it! How did it help you get closer to that person? How did you feel? What did you conquer? use hashtag #BetterRelationshipsChallenge

  • The Power of Silence: Finding Yourself in Silence, not Meditation
I have tried meditating, I’ve even taken meditation classes. What I found is that I am not a meditator, at least not in the traditional sense of the word.
Although the dictionary definition of meditation has to do with “contemplation” which I definitely do regularly.
What I do love and practice regularly is quiet time. Silence gives me the space to regroup, recharge and refuel.
This episode is all about quiet time and how noise energetically affects our bodies.
The last 5 minutes is a guided form of “quiet time” to get you started on this practice that can change your life.

ps. Some of us are introverts, some extroverts, some a combination of the two. But every single one of us, no matter your personality, needs alone time. How much of it, that’s the part that depends on your specific needs. Too much isolation can lead to depression and low self-esteem. So how do we know how much is too much or too little? That’s one of those things you learn with time. There’s a difference between feeling lonely or feeling bored. Feeling bored is the sensation of having nothing to do, the cause for this can be that what is normally occupying you doesn’t fulfill you enough to be carried throughout your day-to-day. Feeling bored in a relationship could also mean that you’re not finding fulfillment within that relationship= and the solution for both is to keep the focus on yourself. How can you (not your partner, your boss, your job) find more fulfillment in your life?
Feeling lonely is based on a human need for connection. Connection and intimacy are super important for us as humans. And again, what are your sources of connection? Maybe they’re not enough. Maybe you need more- not in a quantitive sense, but more as in the quality of the connection needs to be deeper. What can you do to improve it?
I thought about creating a little quiz for you all about finding out how much alone time you need based on your current lifestyle. But then I realized that goes against much of what I believe. Each individual is different, and a quiz like that takes the power away from you. Taking those kinds of quizzes says, I don’t know about myself- internet, you tell me! The best way to pull that power back and hold strong is to give yourself quiet time in which you can find these answers for yourself.
