Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Hunt Lift Eat Podcast where we've recently been doing a ton more hunting and lifting than we have eating. 

The new hunting season is back and we are so dang stoked - although, hunting this early feels a bit naughty like we are doing something illegal. Folks out west are already chasing elk and antelope and us east coast folks couldn't be more jealous. We at HLE are putting the finishing touches on our bows, ensuring our rifles are sighted in, and finishing the ankle biter tasks that we have been avoiding. 

Live from the great city Laramie in the great state of Wyoming, Luke and Keiffer are running the hot mics on today's episode. There are two types of people in the way they prepare for their upcoming seasons: Those who shoot by the hip and those who plan everything out + layout all their gear for inspection. Which one are you? 

Both Luke and Keiffer talk about their methodologies and approaches to new season based on what and where they are hunting. Naturally this is normal based on what species of animal you are hunting, where you are hunting, length of the hunt, and what does base camp look like for you. Each person and their hunt is unique and we alter our approach based on what it is we are doing.

Since Carter is such a history nerd, of course the boys talk about the history of Elk. When we think of Elk we typically think of hunting Elk in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, etcetera but all Western states. Elk are just as much as an East coast animal as it is a West Coast animal. 

Josh Reed has been successful in his Elk hunts in Kentucky and is dedicated in being just as good a hunter as Daniel Boone. Avery Whitehead recently drew a Kentucky Elk is looking to fill that tag here shortly in the latter part of 2026.
