The Ian Furness Show

We first started reporting the possibility yesterday, and today it's official; Mike Leach has taken the head coaching job at Mississippi State. Just a month ago, Leach signed a one-year extension, good through 2024, which led us to think that maybe he'd stay for now, but clearly that did not happen. Leach is taking an SEC job that's closer to home, but one also wonders if he had beaten Washington a time or two if things wouldn't be different. He'd have had a better shot at the Pac-12 Championship, and recruiting within the state would have been helped as well. This leaves a big coaching vacancy over in Pullman, so what's next for the school? Christian Caple usually covers the Huskies for The Athletic but he's keeping close tabs on this situation. We bring him on the show to give us updates. Ian of course has thoughts on the move. We catch up with him as he makes his way to Green Bay. On Something Good, Australians give American firefighters a round of applause as they arrive to help fight the bushfires.

The first hour of the show was entirely taken up with the news that Mike Leach is taking a coaching job down South. This hour, we get back to talking Seahawks. Longtime Green Bay Packer A. J. Hawk talks with us about this weekend's Hawks and Packers game. What is it about these two teams every time they play that causes such wild games? Texts at 49451 tell us what the Cougs should do next at the coaching position. Softy reacts to Mike Leach leaving. Husky fans are disappointed. After all, no coach has ever had less success against UW.

Ian is out at the VMAC for what is hopefully not the last time this season. He caught up with KJ Wright after the game in Philly, but has a chance to talk with him at length about his time as a Seahawk, this year's roster, the game plan for the Green Bay game, and more. Mike Leach is again looking at yet another coaching job in the SEC; this time it's Mississippi State. Okay, so he would be closer to home, and it's an SEC gig, but is that job really more appealing than coaching at Washington State. With Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, and LSU, the SEC West is easily the most challenging conference in college football, and this is probably the lowest school on the roster. Expectations will be higher in Starkville, and it'll be a bigger challenge to meet them. On Something Good, Trae Young helps erase more than $1 million in medical debt for Atlanta-area residents in need.

The Hawks are playing Green Bay this weekend, and there's no better person to have on the show than a man that's coached games for both teams in the frozen tundra. We get Coach's thoughts on the legacy of Lambeau field, comparisons between Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, and the keys a Seahawks win on Sunday. Jadeveon Clowney continues to be vilified by the national media for the hit on Sunday. The reality is there should have been a flag on that play, but Clowney does not have a history of being a dirty player. Good players sometimes make mistakes, and ultimately, every football play ends in some type of violent act. Which coaching job is better: Mississippi State or Washington State? Texters respond at 49451. Softy and Ian talk about legendary NFL venues that are still around. Outside of Lambeau, there aren't many.

Tune in every Wednesday at 2pm to hear Mike Holmgren with Ian Furness on all things NFL and Seahawks. He is brought to you by Tacoma Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, and by Redbox. For movies and games, head to Redbox, the smarter way to watch and play.

Ian is back from Philly just in time to prepare for another trip, this time to the frozen tundra of Green Bay. Comparisons have been made between this team, and the 2013-2014 teams, and while they might not quite have the level of talent that team had, there is something special about this team. The Giants are reportedly hiring Joe Judge as their new head coach. Ah yes, the legendary Joe Judge will lead the storied New York franchise and.... wait.... who is Joe Judge? This is why we're lucky here in Seattle. We can talk about our team playing a football game on the second week of January instead of trying to figure out who is coaching our team next season. Ian caught up with Bradley McDougald and KJ Wright after the game on Sunday. We play that back. There's been mixed success on the hardwood from our two local Pac-12 teams, each going 1-1 on the weekend. WSU's new basketball coach has the potential to make in-roads where the last coach left off; recruiting local talent. There are plenty of great players in Washington, and they aren't all going to the Dawgs. It's been awhile, but Something Good is back. Today, a model sends nudes to anyone donating $10 to help fight the Australian bushfires.
