The Ian Furness Show

Despite losing two of three, the M's had an exciting weekend. On the field, Mike Leake pitched a perfect game into the ninth inning, and off the field, Edgar, after ten years of waiting, was finally inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Joining us to talk all things M's is ROOT Sports senior baseball analyst Bill Krueger. A number of well-known NFL players could be traded or even released by their respective teams before the regular season begins. NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal looks at who might be on the move. Texts react to the Jarran Reed suspension, and the inconsistency of the league. Softy is back from vacation! He joins Terry from Jimmy's on First.

Through the magic of technology, Terry Blount fills in for Ian from San Diego. Yesterday, Seattle's NHL franchise took a giant step forward by announcing Ron Francis as its first GM. He's a Hall of Famer with a great track record and the clear willingness to put in the effort to win. He's the right hire for this team. It's a good day in Seattle with many more to come with this team. Nick Saban isn't a big fan of kids being able to transfer without a penalty. That's interesting. One wonders if he feels the same way when coaches leave their players high and dry to take another gig. Maybe he supports coaches giving back a year of their salary when they take off in the middle of acontract. In reality, he almost certainly feels that coaches deserve a different standard. Golfers are hitting well under par, and Terry isn't happy about it. It shouldn't be that easy. On Something Good, people swim out in shark-infested waters to try to steer whales back out ot sea. All but three were saved.

After nearly a decade of waiting, Edgar Martinez will finally be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Athletic's Corey Brock talks about what this means for Edgar, and for M's fans. It's the time of year when baseball teams must decide whether it's time to buy or to sell. Tyreek Hill will not be suspended as the NFL decides there is no clear evidence of domestic violence. We take texts at 49451, and hear from Dick Fain.

We talked about it yesterday, and today it's official; Hall of Famer Ron Francis has been named the new General Manager of NHL Seattle. Ian and Dick Fain will have a chance to talk with him later this afternoon. The Open Championship, aka the British Open is underway at Royal Portrush. We get updates from Bob Casper of Real Golf Radio. Every day we take a few minutes to highlight something positive happening in an otherwise negative world on Something Good.

Ron Francis has a tall order ahead of him in Seattle. This city is used to winning. The Seahawks, Sounders, and Storm, all of our pro sports teams and their current GM's except one (looking at you, Dipoto) have won their respective championships. What the Golden Knights did their first year has raised expectations for expansion teams. The bar is set pretty high for the new franchise, and the new GM. Ian spoke with Tod Leiweke for a few minutes today. We play it back here, but there's more to come with Dick Fain this afternoon at 4:30. Training camp begins in just seven days at the VMAC. We go over some of the biggest storylines surrounding the team right now. Texts at 49451 react to the show. Dick Fain joins us ahead of the big interview with Ron Francis this afternoon.
