The Ian Furness Show

There are reports this afternoon that Hall of Famer Ron Francis will be named the first General Manager of the new Seattle hockey franchise. Francis has some experience, most recently with the Carolina Hurricanes. Ray Ferraro of TSN and NBCSN knows Francis well. He tells us what we can expect from the new GM, and how Seattle's draft process might be different from Vegas. Every day at 1:50, we feature something positive happening in the world in a segment we call Something Good.

Training camp gets underway late next week at the VMAC, but rookies have already reported, which might be the first time that's happened. Four rookies have been placed on the PUP, but there's no reason for concern at this point. Teams place guys on the PUP for basically any reason, and can remove them at any time during the preseason. We got through most of Roster Roulette yesterday; today we finish up with corners and safeties. Texts react to the reported hiring of Ron Francis. Dick Fain joins us from Jimmy's on First.

Seahawks training camp starts late next week, and today Ian and Curtis go through the roster position group by position group: Who goes, who stays, and who's on the bubble? Before we get to that though, Ian looks back on the 2009 dumpster fire of a Seahawks season. It's amazing how quickly things turned around once we brought in a new coach. On Something Good, a couple of companies Ian didn't have time to mention during yesterday's segment who helped out with Friday's event.

Curtis and Ian continue evaluating the 2019 Seahawks roster, position group by position group in a segment called Roster Roulette. Jed Collins talks about his latest mission, to help increase financial education for young football players in the NFL. We have a few minutes for texts at 49451. Dick Fain joins the show to continue the conversation about the 2019 Seahawks roster.

We're three games into the second half of the baseball season, and it's not going well for the M's, losing all three games, including being no-hit on Friday, and losing thanks to a three-run home run given up in the eighth on Sunday. For this baseball team, nothing is working right now, and it probably has something to do with the fact that everyone on that team knows moves are coming in the next two weeks, and it could be them. For all of the doom and gloom at the top of the organization, there's good news on the farm as Logan Gilbert, Cal Raleigh, and Ljay Newsome are all promoted from the Modesto Nuts to the AA Arkansas Travelers. Updating us on the three prospects is voice of the Nuts Keaton Gillogly. On Something Good: The Mayor of Maple Valley Open was a huge success. Ian takes a few moments to thank as many of you as humanly possible for your support.

The next couple of weeks could tell us a lot about the future of the Mariners, but right now things aren't going great. Bill Krueger goes over all of it with us courtesy of Venue Kings. Ryan Leaf has a new gig with ESPN. He talked with Cliff and Puck about his long journey to make it to this point in his life. We play back some of that interview. Dick Fain joins us to talk about what's on the afternoon show.
