The Ian Furness Show

It's Snowpocalypse Day 324, or at least that's what it feels like as more snow falls around the Seattle area. It might be coming to an end though.... maybe. Kareem Hunt is joining the Cleveland Browns. It was inevitable that someone is going to snap him up. After all, pro sports is about winning above everything, for better or worse, but is he worth the risk? We love second chances, but it's also hard to support someone with his record. We talk with Ross Tucker about Kareem Hunt and the possible impacts, plus Kyler Murray's decision to play football, and the first weekend of the AAF. The AAF's TV ratings were pretty good this weekend, but so were the XFL's and we know how that ended. The best way for a league like this to succeed is to become a part of the feeder system for the NFL. Not only will you get local fans more invested, but fans of NFL teams will watch to see how their future starters perform.

It's hard to believe as Western Washington gets blanketed with more snow, but pitchers and catchers are in fact reporting today in Peoria. The Athletic's Corey Brock escaped the weather, joining us from Arizona with what to watch for as Spring Training begins. Ian and Kevin go over their picks for the most interesting Mariners storylines as baseball is about to get underway. Softy prepares for the end of the world as the roads get worse and worse; but if the world doesn't end, we can look forward to seeing Puka Nacua in purple and gold.

It's snowing! That's kind of obvious at this point, but it's creating havoc throughout the Puget Sound, so enjoy your infuriating drive by listening to us. The Sports Star of the Year awards were last night. Gardner Minshew was honored, and it reminded Ian how big of an impact he had on the Cougar program this year after the tragic passing of Tyler Hilinski. Sports can't heal all wounds completely, but they can make a difference in people's lives, lift spirits, and bring people together. While you're snowed in this weekend, you can enjoy the beginning of the AAF. Rules are a little different, and we go over them. Last night Ian spoke with Chris Hansen who is still pushing for the SoDo Arena. He's trying to get an NBA team, but realistically, the NHL Seattle guys probably have a leg up on being prepared.

The snow continues to fall, and Q13 meteorologist Tim Joyce has all the latest on what we can expect tonight. Sonic legend Gary Payton discusses the NBA, and players then and now. Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout has thoughts on Gardner Minshew, Ben Burr-Kirven, Combine snubs, and more. We take texts from frustrated drivers at 49451.

The off-the-court soap opera in the NBAnever stops, and Kevin Durant isn't handling it well (as usual). This has to be expected though in a league that's so player-centric. Dave Emerick, "Chief of Staff" for WSU football fills us in on the latest from Pullman, recruiting, Signing Day, and more. Dave Tippett dropped some hints about where Seattle's AHL affiliate might be, and it probably won't be in the Puget Sound Region. For the Junior League teams, that's great news, and it'll work out well for the fans as well. Players are drafted from the Junior League teams, and often play for them even after they've been drafted, so Seattle NHL fans will still get plenty of chances to see the future stars of the team as they play for the Thunderbirds, Silvertips, or other visiting WHL teams.
