The parent-child relationship is at the heart of creating a safe, developmentally nurturant space for a child that builds their advocacy, develops agency, and demonstrates that the child matters. Parents with children who learn differently instinctively know their children need them at many different levels and in many different ways to support and sometimes create the path before them. Through the presenters’ personal experience, research partners, and the work they do at GAB-on!, listeners gain insight into:

• How to guide parents to simply and consistently create a safe space for and engage in child-led conversations that provide a window into their thoughts and perspectives
• Why parent conversations with their child(ren) are needed to build agency, reduce anxiety (in children and parents too), develop social skills, and improve academic achievement
• Helping parents connect school to home through child-led conversations about their day
• Sharing the importance of conversations to strengthen trusted relationships and provide the child with a feeling of belonging that strengthens mental health and future success
