We talked about how kids keep you humble, teaching your kids to say truth but nicely, being Poppa Brian to his girlfriend’s twin daughters, having a son with autism, spending a lot of time at chuck e cheese with his son, post partum depression, depression, finding out his was bipolar and getting medicated correctly, going to therapy, mental health and his time in artist management and what started his journey with that.

Brian says multiple times in this episode if you’re a dad and you’re experiencing depression, or need someone to talk to about post partum life he’s here for you.  You aren’t alone, it’s rarely talked about, and if you feel like you need help, it’s really important to know you aren’t alone in it.

On this episode we have on Sid from the band The Emergency Exit.  You also might have seen his videos on socials talking about being a Punk Rock Girl Dad and teaching his daughter about punk rock music.

We talked about letting her daughter play with his vinyl and guitars, how being a dad adds a layer of depth and love that’s hard to explain, horror movies, recording music, his love of star wars, and the story of how started posting videos of being a punk rock dad.

My favorite thing about Sid is how much of a normal guy he was.  He seemed very “I’m a guy who plays punk rock, loves punk rock, and is gonna teach his kids punk rock, regardless of if this videos get watched or not.”  SO it’s really cool to learn more about him and his life

Korby is a musician, author, actor, podcaster, and created a TV show called Morse Code, so pretty much every creative thing you can do.

We talked about what being a parent teaches you about your own childhood, when quitting something opens up new doors for you, what Korby defines as success as a dad and creative, what rhythms he’s making to be creative, mental space when you don’t have the time to be creative, the importance of staying disciplined, having a studio in his back yard, going on midday walks with his wife and helping her with audition tapes at the end of the day.

On this episode we have on Musician Cory Cullinan, also known as Dr Noize.

I met up with Cory as his studio out here and we discussed taking his daughters to the Grammy’s, his daughters going off to college, coaching his daughters in soccer, and learning how to motivate his kids based on their personalities.

A lot of this conversation is a deeply personal story about Cory’s upbringing.  I asked him about what made him do kids music and he shared the story of his childhood.  He grew up with a normal happy family life and then his brother got sick and died within 2 years, and a year later his dad committed suicide. Cory opened up to me about how that has guided the rest of his life.  From trying to understand his dad’s decision to understanding his brother’s acceptance of illness. By performing for kids he honors his dad and brother before life fell apart.

So this episode has a lot to it. And I’m genuinely grateful for Cory’s trust in sharing his story.
