"Jesus can bring peace to your mind when circumstances bring anxiety. Jesus can bring calm in the morning after a troubled night.
Jesus can bring divine perspective when the world wounds us."

Let go of how you think things are supposed to be. To be human is to live with uncertainty and change. So what are we to do? It seems the whisper of God to my heart in this season is this: Let go of how you think things are supposed to be. This is the gap we feel, isn’t it? We have expectations for how life will go, the ways people will behave, what the future will hold. We cling to those with clenched fists until our fingers and souls ache.

I need the fresh reminder of God’s mercy right now. Looking back, I now see that God’s unfailing love didn’t just come to me every morning, it carried me through every night. His mercy was the breath in my lungs even though my body was weak. His mercy was love in my life even though I felt lost and alone. His mercy was a feast for my soul, sustaining me though I ached and starved for my life to change.

Listen in as eight (in)courage authors read their chapters from our new book, Come Sit with Me: How to Delight in Differences, Love through Disagreements, and Live with Discomfort! This is Chapter 1, by Jennifer Dukes Lee, titled Table of One.
In Come Sit With Me, 26 (in)courage writers get fully vulnerable as they share about the real, the hard, even the yet unfinished. From politics to religious differences, from dealing with toxic people to dealing with our own unforgiveness and desire for revenge, (in)courage is here to reveal the struggles no one really wants to talk about – and how we can actually grow closer to God and others through the circumstances we’d rather run from.
Whether you’re in the middle of a conflict without resolution or wondering how to enter into a friend’s pain, this book will serve as a gentle guide. Discover how God can work through your disagreements, differences, and discomfort in ways you might never expect. We’re thrilled about this very special book; get your copy today.

How we treat ourselves in the midst of our wrestling matters. When I struggle with junior high feelings, I remember that I am made in His image and living fully as God created me to be is worship lived out.

Approach whatever this year holds with openness and gentleness, with no hurry or rush. I want the maturity that comes with the slow ripening of character and soul. I want wisdom and peace to mark my days.

One night, I begged God, “Please, renew my joy. Please, restore my hope.” Seeing our own struggle reflected in someone else’s story can carve out space to be strong.
Hearing someone else acknowledge the heaviness of hard things can give us hope that the weight won’t crush us.

LORD, help me reframe my idea of obedience from one of dread and doom to one of love and joy. Thank You for the guarantee that Your Spirit will lead me to truth and to wisdom. Even when I can’t see its worth, help me choose wisdom. Even if I look foolish to others, help me take steps toward saying yes to You. I want to experience the joy of obedience as I learn to become wise. Meet me where I am, God, and take me where You want me to be. Amen.

If it weren't for friendship, I would still be stuck. As a single gal, I often lack the perspective of another person in the day-to-day and it can feel lonely at times. But when Shauna was willing to enter the mess and help see a way to order the chaos, it was a sweet reminder of Ecclesiastes 4:9: "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor."
