  • Episode 111: Using Technology Wisely (with Andy Crouch)
Andy Crouch is right to say that modern technology has created “easy everywhere.” Yes, modern technology has created many good and beautiful things in this life – we should participate in that! But on the other hand, modern technology can decrease “true human” development – primarily, increasing in wisdom and courage. The “easy everywhere” of technology trains and moulds us to just expect anything we want at anytime without putting any effort into it (other than pushing a button). Andy Crouch talks with us this week about using technology wisely, and summarizes what he calls the ten tech-wise commitments.

    Who’s Our Guest?
Andy Crouch makes connections between culture, creativity, and Christian faith. His two most recent books—2017’s The Tech-Wise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in Its Proper Place and 2016’s Strong and Weak: Embracing a Life of Love, Risk and True Flourishing—build on the compelling vision of faith, culture, and the image of God laid out in his previous books Playing God: Redeeming the Gift of Power and Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling.

Andy’s book (the one we’ve been talking about in this conversation) is called The Tech-Wise Family.

Like most things in life, social media can be used really badly or really well. Like most things in life, social media can be used really badly or really well. If you use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. to gain approval and acceptance, or to proudly show-off your seemingly perfect life, then it’s probably not helping you or those around you. But, however, if you use social media to equip and serve others, then that’s awesome. Social media is a medium or a tool by which God desires us to use for his glory and the good of others. Chris Martin helps use think through this.

    Who’s Our Guest?
Chris Martin is an Author Development Specialist at LifeWay. He helps a select group of authors engage with their audiences online in order to better serve them with digital content like blog posts or videos. He also manages the blog and social media of Eric Geiger, Vice President of LifeWay Resources. Chris is on Twitter @ChrisMartin17.

  • Episode 109: I’m Attracted to the Same Sex, What Do I Do? (with Sam Allberry)
“I’m attracted to the same sex – what do I do?” We’re in the midst of a sexual revolution. What’s been considered foundational truth for millennia is now being changed – and in the midst of this transition, questions and confusion are on the rise. With us this week is author and speaker Sam Allberry. He defines some relevant terms, keeps us in tune and in line with the Bible, and even gets into his own story of same-sex attraction. Whether you struggle with same-sex attraction, know someone who does, or are quite separate from it, you’d benefit highly from listening to this conversation.

    Who’s Our Guest?
Sam Allberry is a pastor and writer based in Maidenhead, UK, and a global speaker for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. He is an editor and a writer for The Gospel Coalition and the author of a number of books on Christian belief, including Why Bother With Church?, James For You, and the bestselling Is God Anti-Gay?

  • Episode 108: Are You Called to Missions?
Are you called to missions? This is an important question – one that (in many ways) demands our thought. The word “missions” has been used a lot lately, perhaps to the point of losing its true definition. What does it even mean? With us this week is Duane Frasier from Joshua Project – talking about what missions truly is, the question “How do I know if I’m called to missions?” and much more.

    Who’s Our Guest?
Duane Frasier works as a researcher for Joshua Project. The organization of Joshua Project gathers, integrates and shares people group information to encourage pioneer church-planting movements among every ethnic group and to facilitate effective coordination of mission agency efforts.

Like we were talking about in the conversation, head to JoshuaProject.net and spend some time taking in the amount of information that’s there. And pray! Maybe something you read about while on the site will prompt you to go even farther…

  • Episode 107: How to have Hope in a Cynical Age (with Dr. Jason Duesing)

Myriads of people live without or in denial of hope every day – including Christians. Christians may give lip service to their “hope” in Jesus and the gospel, but can easily reject that hope from entering their hearts. The issue is that we’re living in a cynical age. Myriads of people live without or in denial of hope every day – including Christians. Christians may give lip service to their “hope” in Jesus and the gospel, but can easily reject that hope from entering their hearts. The issue is that we’re living in a cynical age. An age where negativity and excessive sarcasm abounds – resulting in a kind of stoicism. But, is there hope? Dr. Jason Duesing believes so. There’s a great hope to be found (or rediscovered) – a hope that’s worth losing everything for.

    Who’s Our Guest?
Dr. Jason Duesing serves as the academic Provost and Associate Professor of Historical Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jason also serves as a research fellow for the ERLC, on the board of directors for the CBMW, academic editor of the Midwestern Journal of Theology, and general editor for For the Church resources. • Episode 106: The KJV and Bible Translation Idolatry (with Mark Ward)

If you were anyone (living anywhere) that spoke English just 150 or so years ago, you would have probably had the King James Bible. Finished in 1611, this was the first major English translation of the Bible to take off. Now, over 400 years later, the question is: what are we to do with it?…

If you were anyone (living anywhere) that spoke English just 150 or so years ago, you would have probably had the King James Bible. Finished in 1611, this was the first major English translation of the Bible to take off. Now, over 400 years later, the question is: what are we to do with it? This might seem like an odd or irrelevant question, but don’t judge too quickly. There is lot’s to talk about when it comes to the KJV, and it leads into how we view our Bible translations as a whole today. Join the conversation with author Mark Ward as he discusses the story of the KJV, KJV-Onlyism, Bible translation idolatry, and more.

    Who’s Our Guest?
Mark Ward received his PhD in New Testament Interpretation from Bob Jones University in 2012. He now serves the church as a Logos Pro, writing weekly on Bible study for the Logos Talk Blog and training users in the use of Logos Bible Software. He blogs at byfaithweunderstand.com.
