It’s the end of year and that means we’re not only doing our last pod of 2019, but our last pod of this decade.

Crazy.

Joining us this week is someone that we have recommended multiple times on our “Who The Fuck is Peter Guy?’ section of the pod. It’s Isabel Murgelas, otherwise known as I.M The Artist. Not only have recommended her already, she is produced by our very own Alex Dop, with an EP out right now! You can stream Self Made on all platforms!

Isabel is an amazing lyricist and we delve into how she blurs the lines between singing and spoken word, as well as the scene that is created for that genre. And, of course, LOADS more, including our usual smegments.

It’s just Shell and Dop for this one, singing the post Birthday blues. The main talking point is about how age affects creative careers as both Shell and Dop turn another year older. They also go off on a few little tangents, as usual!

Shell and Dop take a little trip to south London to visit another member of the wider community. Guitarist, producer, keys player, DJ and an artist in his own, pretty damn successful right, Mr Jalen N’Gonda.

Jalen has been smashing it with his solo project, playing all over the world, including supporting the legend that is Lauryn Hill. We talk about his musical beginnings, the realisation that everyone is faking it, even when they make it, and hear a harrowing story about a broken guitar.

This week it’s Michelle, Dop and Tee (FaceSkyping in). We took the opportunity to have another little debrief on how the pod is going and reflect on all the amazing guests that we’ve had the pleasure of speaking to on the show. We also talk about the importance to take a step back from things in your creative life, continuing on from our conversation with Michael Sebastian last week, as well as catching up with Tee’s latest venture and our usual smegments.

This week we are joined by Michael Sebastian, an improvisation performer who hooks his guitar and voice up to a loop station to create amazing, totally improvised dance music. We talk about how Michael goes from busking to hosting his own organic raves in London and…er…Bali!

We also were lucky enough to set up in the flat for a jam with the man himself. A couple of guitars, a synth, his loop station and a microphone. We’ve not stuck the whole thing in the show as we went all night, but just a little snippet gives you the taste.

Now for something completely different…this week we are joined by Sophie Marsh, and, much like Princess Jasmine, we are taken to explore a whole new world.

Sophie is body-poet. Not sure what that entails? Well you’re about the find out. Sophie fuses her poetry and writing with movement, somewhere between dancing and yoga. This fusion of creative mediums is something that really interests us, especially when the line also becomes blurred between art and well being.

Sophie also treats us to a body meditation so that you can get involved.

This week we have a first for the pod, we’ve got an actress on! Not only that, but an actress who also makes a living out of directing and singing, too. Francesca Goodridge is a long time friend, having lived with Michelle back in 2012/13, a much anticipated guest as we get the opportunity to delve into a world that we are yet to.

Fran has directed hit theatre productions such as Shout!, amongst many others, travelling up and down the UK and even to parts of Europe and the Middle East to ply her trade. On a chilled Sunday afternoon we get into things before our roast dinner is ready for us, enjoy!
