Daryl James and Will Aronin, attorneys for the Institute of Justice, join the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the organizations attempts to hold the Philadelphia Parking Authority accountable for what they consider to be constitutional violations. The Institute of Justice notes that the PPA, which is governed by a state-appointed board, violates the 4th amendment guarantee against unreasonable searches and seizure when it takes cars via towing without warrant. Also, Aronin notes that he believes the PPA also violates the 8th amendment, which protects against excessive fines, and the 14th amendment, which guarantees due process. James and Aronin explain their stance further, telling that there are million ways that a government can go after debt, but the system being fundamentally broken, allows the organization to hold property as ransom.
