  • 9. What does a classroom teacher need to know about English language development?

Welcome to episode #9! Today is the second half of a conversation with a new co-teacher!  This episode is us talking about English language development!  What basics should she know as a teacher of English language learners?  How can she support different levels of learners in the same classroom?  What should she watch out for?  I’m so excited to share this conversation with you!  I hope it inspires positive conversation between you and your current and/or future co-teachers!

  • 8. How do I set up my classroom for success as an Integrated ENL/ELA Co-Teacher?

Welcome! Today's episode is an interview between myself and an anticipated co-teacher! She's asking lots of questions to build our relationship as co-teachers! We’re planning to work together this upcoming fall. This episode is us talking about intentionally preparing to have English language learners, or in this case Multilingual learners, in her integrated ENL/ELA classroom.  This is part one of two of our conversation!  This half is a great overview of all things ENL related for NYS.  It’s mostly focused on her “burning questions” as I like to call… all those things that are on her mind as an integrated co-teacher!  Most importantly it’s about setting up the classroom for success to be kind and inclusive of everyone’s needs!  She plans to do this with a positive morning meeting each day!  I’m so excited to work with her and I hope our conversation inspires positive conversation between you and your current and/or future co-teachers!

  • 6. Intentional Collaborative Teaching (a crossover episode with Bethany Kay!)

Welcome to the sixth episode of the Intentional TESOL! Today   In this crossover episode, I’m speaking with my friend and coach, Bethany Kay, from Your Unshakeable Life with Bethany Kay, linked below.  Our discussion focuses on co-teaching and the meta cognitive self awareness needed to intentionally teach collaboratively (or co-teach) multilingual learners.  Bethany is a mindset coach and conducts small group and 1:1 coaching for busy do-it-all women, like me!  We met when we worked together years ago to serve an entering level newcomer from a very rural community in a Central American country. Our talk today focused on the crossover between being a teacher of English to speakers of other languages and setting the positive intentions to make it a great experience for everyone...students, co-teachers and administration!  I hope to empower you to make clear actions after noticing the emotions that pop up in these experiences to make your intentions for a positive collaboration be fulfilled!  And, so that you feel fulfilled and energized by what you’re doing and how you’re impacting those around you!

  • 4. Stereotype #2: ENL teachers are just there for the MLLs.

Today I’m focusing on co-teaching and all that a classroom teacher and ENL teacher bring to a classroom for integrated ENL instruction, which is the primary method of instruction for our multilingual learners used in NYS.  I challenge you to ask yourself the three questions at the end to grow your professional mindset and act in an intentional way.  A way that is specifically chosen to bring out the best in your learners, while not over extending yourself because you’re working together.
