The Investigators

Rodney Cummings spent his childhood in and out of abusive orphanages and foster homes with intermittent stays with his financially struggling father and drug-addicted mother. Upon barely graduating high school, he found himself homeless on the streets of Anderson, IN. With no support system and no money, he helped commit a residential burglary which resulted in his arrest and conviction, just one month after his 18th birthday.

Today, after completing a successful career as a police officer, he is the elected Prosecuting Attorney of Madison, County, IN. The very county in which he was convicted of Burglary. Better yet, he not only won this elected position on his first campaign, he managed to beat the very prosecutor that tried and convicted him. This is a redemption story for the ages and Rodney is here to tell us exactly how it came to be.

Todd speaks with Rahul Sidhu, a member of the law enforcement community that is the co-founder and CEO of SPIDR Tech. SPIDR Tech, which is the world’s first customer service infrastructure built exclusively for law enforcement. This isn't an infomercial or ad-based content. This is a product and concept that Todd is genuinely interested in and believes in. Thus, he brought Rahul on so he could learn more about it and to pick his brain on all aspects of police reform.

Todd is once again joined by his friend and former sister in blue, Tammy Watson, to discuss the constitutional right to carry a handgun vs the requirement to obtain a government issued permit to carry a handgun. This is a very controversial topic right now so they took this discussion very seriously and tried to apply their law enforcement experience to examine the validity of both sides of the argument.

Tamara "Tammy" Watson is a former undercover officer with the Indiana State Police who worked with Todd for several years. She specialized in Diversion Drugs, investigating doctors and other medical professionals that violated controlled substance acts but she's done plenty of other cool stuff too. She here to talk about her time spent in covert investigations and to offer some insight into what it's like to work as a female in law enforcement.

I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support since the release of the "The Greatest Cop I Ever Knew" episode, which was a tribute to my LE brother Mitch Blocher. Unfortunately, Mitch isn't doing well and it appears his time to mark 10-42 for the final time is near. Many of you reached out to me asking how you could donate to Mitch's family so here's the information you need if you wish to do so.

Go to http://www.indianasfinest.com/donate

Fill out all the required information and select ISPA Benevolence Fund from the pick list.

And finally, type "Family of Mitch Blocher" in the comment field.

Chris Bayless is a retired ATF agent with a storied career. He worked undercover throughout his 30 years of service and he is recognized by his peers as one of the best to ever do it. He's here to share stories from his career and to talk a bit about the state of law enforcement today and its battle against misrepresentation in the media.

This episode is dedicated to one of my best friends, Sgt. Mitch Blocher of the Indiana State Police. Mitch was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this year and everyone was optimistic that it was treatable. I found out yesterday that treatment has been ineffective and now his time here is nearing an end.

This episode is my own journal entry to preserve in time. It chronicles my journey with Mitch and what my relationship with him means to me. I tell some old war stories and explain how we always seemed to work out a way to be working together.

It's also my way of introducing you to The Greatest Cop I Ever Knew. I'll probably go back and listen to this once a year if I had to guess.

As promised, retired HSI Special Agent Victor Avila is back to fill us in on what's happening along our border with Mexico and how it pertains the human trafficking and drug trades in the U.S. that are controlled by the drug cartels and other criminal organizations.

If you'd like to discover more about this story and Victor Avila, please find his book Agent Under Fire: A Murder and a Manifesto by using any of the links below:
