  • The "it will be better when" trap.
The "it will be better when" trap. In other words, life will be better in the future when something else happens. I have fallen in to this trap many times throughout my life, and often it has happened to me while playing competitive video games. Often I would have the thought that it would be better when we won, or if I was having a bad game, it would be better as soon as it was over. I would never tell myself that the outcome wasn't important. What was important was whether or not I was having fun with my friends, or getting better at the game. Today, I am talking to you as I play a game called League of Legends, a game I have struggled to practice the principle I am sharing with you today. I hope you enjoy this power thought, and I appreciate your feedback!

  • Can I still be positive in a situation that consistently brought out the worst in me?
Can I still be positive in a situation that has consistently brought out the worst in me? It's important that things you do work in any situation, on any day of the week, and no matter how you are feeling. League of Legends solo queue has been one of the most difficult things for me to focus on and keep my cool with, and I told my friends roughly 8 months ago that I would never play the game again. Today, I am happy to be giving it a second chance and I hope that approaching it with a better attitude will give me better results.

  • How to have a great day even when you are sick.
How to have a great day even when you are sick. Today, I am suffering from a bit of a cold, and I deal with being sick by doing the same things I do on a normal day. After being sick for hundreds of days over the course of my life, I am grateful to be alive and here with you today!

  • What works for me to have a happy relationship with my wife.
What works for me to have a happy relationship with my wife. I am grateful to be in a position to share this power thought with you today. As a young adult I was under the impression that being in a relationship would solve all of my problems, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. A good relationship acts as a mirror, and I must be willing to work to be the best version of myself each day. I now understand the meaning of "my better half!"

  • You can learn and grow, or criticize and condemn.
You can learn and grow, or you can criticize and condemn. It is difficult to do both. I have received some of the most criticism from the Call of Duty videos I upload to my Facebook page. People like to criticize me for "camping" even thought they ignore the outcome of the game. I remember when I was one of those people who wanted to criticize what others were doing, and blaming people for my own problems. Today, I am grateful to be in a place where I can focus on learning and growing as a person!

  • Success = Failure.
Success equals failure, and failure equals success. You might think these two things are mutually exclusive, but you cannot have one without the other. You cannot avoid failure completely, or vice-versa. I have learned this principle throughout my life, and it is especially apparent with my work as an entrepreneur online. Since I have such a high profile as an instructor on Udemy, I often have people tell me how they wish they were as successful as me. On the other hand, I will have people tell me I am a failure with the way I teach something, or concerning the quality of the content in a course. So, am I success or failure? If you look at this idea in the context of a game where you have a winner and loser, how can the winner have success without the perceived failure of a loser? Thank you for taking the time to listen to this power thought, and I appreciate your feedback!

  • How I maintain a healthy weight by turning what I eat in to a game.
How I maintain a healthy weight by turning what I eat in to a game. I turn eating in to a game by tracking everything, as I eat it, using an app called MyFitnessPal. I am grateful today to be down almost 50 pounds from where I was two years ago. So, why is this such an effective method for maintaining a diet? I have fun tracking what I eat! I noticed I was spending time everyday playing games on my phone, and I decided to start using MyFitnessPal to help me maintain a healthy diet. I hope you enjoyed this power thought, and I appreciate your feedback!

  • The most powerful teaching is leading by example.
The most powerful method of teaching is leading by example. This differs drastically in terms of how we think we should focus on using our words to communicate. As a child, my parents would always tell me not cuss, yet they would often swear in front of me themselves. So, what was the lesson I learned? Swearing was a privilege for adults, and I could cuss if there were no adults around. I appreciate the lesson my parents tried to teach me because they wanted a better life for me, but it is difficult to teach anything outside of your example. Ever since I became a father, I have a similar opportunity to lead by example, and it is harder then than it looks! I hope you enjoy this power thought, and I appreciate your feedback!

  • What I learned sharing pictures of my daughter on Facebook and being told she was ugly.
What I learned sharing pictures of my daughter on Facebook and being told she was ugly. I share these pictures knowing that someone could potentially come along and hate on them and hit me in a spot where I am vulnerable, and sure enough I received a few nasty comments on the picture. However, this helped me to realize that the reason I create these videos is for the people who love them, not the haters. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support, and I hope you are having a great start to the new year!

  • Discipline is finding ways to love doing what you need to do
Discipline is finding ways to love doing what you need to do. This new idea of discipline helps to better motivate me and understand what I need to do in my life each day. The old definition of discipline I used most of my life was pushing myself to do things I hated, that I thought might be good for me. Things like running a mile, continuing to work a miserable job, or sticking with a bad relationship were things I would stay disciplined with because of the commitments I made. I used to think of discipline as something I hated, something that people got beat in to them, and i am thankful I can now view it in a different light. I hope this message is valuable to you, and I appreciate your feedback!
