I never thought I'd be asking this question: WAS KEIR STARMER ACTUALLY A BETTER PRIME MINISTER THAN ANDY BURNHAM?! At least with Starmer you knew what you were getting. He couldn't communicate, couldn't connect with ordinary people and, in my view, you could see the political spin coming a mile off.

Burnham is different. He is a brilliant communicator. He understands PR. He talks the language of ordinary people. But where are the RESULTS?

That's what tonight's show is about. Take the disgraceful situation surrounding PC Andrew Harper's killers. After massive public anger, Burnham now says he is "increasingly confident" they can be prevented from being released early. Good. I hope he succeeds.

BUT WHY DID WE GET INTO THIS POSITION IN THE FIRST PLACE? Why weren't killers like these excluded from the early-release scheme from day one? Why has it taken outrage from the Harper family, the police and hundreds of thousands of ordinary people to force action?

And then there are the SMALL BOATS. Burnham promised to be "relentless". But people are still crossing the Channel. Since he entered Downing Street, thousands more have made the journey. 3000 in total! We don't need another slogan. WE NEED RESULTS.

Then there's Burnham's growing shopping list of promises: £2 bus fares, help for pubs, social-care reform, apprenticeships, energy measures and more. Some of those ideas sound great. I've said that myself. But Britain's finances don't run on good intentions. WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM?

Burnham's first Budget isn't until October, so tonight I want to separate the announcements from the properly costed policies and ask whether we're being sold another enormous helping of JAM TOMORROW. That's my growing concern about Andy Burnham. LOTS OF PR. LOTS OF ANNOUNCEMENTS. LOTS OF PROMISES. But will he actually deliver?

Andy Burnham says he's touring the country because he wants to LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE. Great, Andy. Then LISTEN TO THIS!

I'm throwing the show open to YOU. If you could sit Andy Burnham down and ask him one question — or tell him one thing you want his Government to do RIGHT NOW — what would it be? Here's my list:

1️⃣ STOP LETTING PRISONERS OUT EARLY. If our prisons are full, build more capacity. The answer cannot simply be opening the gates.

2️⃣ BUILD NIGHTINGALE PRISONS. We built emergency hospitals when Britain faced a crisis. Why can't we create emergency prison capacity while permanent prisons are built?

3️⃣ DEPORT FOREIGN NATIONAL OFFENDERS. Why should British taxpayers continue paying to imprison foreign criminals who could be removed from the country where legally possible?

4️⃣ PROCESS ILLEGAL MIGRANTS IN A THIRD COUNTRY. The small-boats crisis needs a genuine deterrent. Stop rewarding people smugglers and destroy their business model.

5️⃣ PROTECT POLITICIANS AND GIVE US THE TRUTH. What is being done to protect politicians including Nigel Farage? And the public deserves clear answers about the circumstances and investigation surrounding the killing of Ann Widdecombe.

6️⃣ JUST GET ON WITH IT! Less touring. Less talking. Less Westminster waffle. Britain needs ACTION. Thousands of people are watching the small boats arrive, worrying about crime, prisons, immigration and whether our borders are actually under control.

At last, a council appears to be talking some common sense about people covering their faces in our city centres.

Nottingham is considering a ban on balaclavas after concerns were raised during a public consultation on measures designed to make the city safer. Council leader Neghat Khan has highlighted the sight of people riding around on e-bikes wearing balaclavas even in scorching summer temperatures and says people have a right to feel safe in their own city.

I AGREE. If you're riding around a city centre in 32-degree heat with a balaclava covering your identity, why shouldn't the police and the public be suspicious? But here's the question I want YOU to debate with me LIVE: If we're going to ban balaclavas in the interests of public safety, why shouldn't the same rule apply to ALL face coverings in public places — including the niqab, burkha or other veils that conceal a person's identity?

This isn't about attacking anybody's religion. It's about asking whether there should be ONE RULE FOR EVERYONE when it comes to identifying people in public spaces. If the argument is that covering your face can make other people feel unsafe, hinder identification or make policing more difficult, surely we have to be prepared to debate where the line should be drawn. Should religious exemptions exist?

Should people be required to uncover their faces only in certain places or when requested by police? Or should Britain simply say that, apart from genuine medical, occupational or safety reasons, faces should remain visible in public?

And there's a bigger question. WHY HAVE BALACLAVAS BECOME SO NORMAL? Masked riders on e-bikes. Shoplifting gangs. Street robbery. Phones being snatched. Ordinary people intimidated in their own town and city centres.

Have we tolerated this for far too long? Nottingham says it wants to become the safest city in the country. GOOD. Let's see other councils show the same ambition. But let's have an honest debate and let's not be frightened of difficult questions. 🔥 BAN BALACLAVAS — YES OR NO?

Two of the men convicted over the killing of PC Andrew Harper are being released early. Whatever your politics, many people will ask whether that can possibly be right.

Yes, Britain's prisons are under enormous pressure. Yes, there is a genuine capacity crisis. But surely there has to be a line. If those responsible for the death of a young police officer are being released early, what message does that send to every serving police officer putting their life on the line today?

Joining me LIVE is former Metropolitan Police Commander and former Police & Crime Commissioner Kevin Hurley.

We'll ask: • Has Britain's justice system completely lost the confidence of the public? • Is the prison crisis now out of control? • Are politicians putting ideology ahead of public safety?

We'll also discuss Andy Burnham's decision to head off on holiday after just two weeks in office. Is now really the right time? Britain is facing a prison crisis, around 2,000 illegal migrants have reportedly crossed the Channel during his first fortnight in office, and Louise Haigh remains in government despite her previous conviction for phone fraud.

Is FARAGE right? Put the ROYAL NAVY in the Channel to STOP the Small Boats INVASION?

If you've watched Jon Gaunt TV over the past few months, you'll know today's debate won't come as any surprise. I've repeatedly argued that Britain has to stop talking tough and start acting tough. I've said for months that if we are serious about ending the small boats crisis, we should use the Royal Navy to defend our borders, return illegal migrants to France, and destroy the business model of the people smugglers.

Today, Nigel Farage and Reform UK have put forward proposals that take the debate firmly in that direction. Following Reform's press conference, we're asking whether Britain should adopt a far tougher approach to illegal Channel crossings. Has Spain shown that determined border enforcement can work? Should Britain follow suit? And if the European Convention on Human Rights stands in the way of the policies some people want, should we leave the ECHR?

For years we've been promised that the boats would stop. Instead, they've kept coming. Successive governments have promised to "smash the gangs," but many people believe the crossings continue because Britain remains an attractive destination and the deterrent simply isn't there.

So is Farage right? Should the Royal Navy and Royal Marines be deployed in the Channel? Should illegal migrants be returned to France ? Has Spain shown Britain what decisive border enforcement looks like? Or would these proposals create more problems than they solve?

Andy Burnham wants Britain to believe he has the answers. More money for social care. Cheaper bus fares. More apprenticeships. Help for Britain's struggling pubs.

Here's the thing... I actually support much of that. Who wouldn't want a properly funded social care system? Who wouldn't like cheaper public transport? Who doesn't want to see pubs survive or more young people given real opportunities through apprenticeships?

But ambition isn't enough. Where's the beef? Where are the costings? Where is the economic plan? How much will these promises actually cost?

Will taxes go up? Will borrowing rise? What public spending will be cut to pay for it all? Or are we simply expected to applaud the headlines without ever seeing the bill?

There's another question that deserves a proper answer too. How was Burnham able to secure and finance his "Number 10 North" headquarters before he had even been elected as an MP, let alone become Prime Minister? Who funded it? Who organised it?

If there are straightforward answers, then the public deserves to hear them. This isn't about opposing every policy because it comes from Andy Burnham. It's about asking the questions every Prime Minister should expect to answer. If you're asking the British people to trust you with the country's finances, you should also be prepared to show them the numbers.
