Chapter 1:

-Yesterday Justin Trudeau and John Horgan announced the single largest private investment in Canadian history; a $40 billion liquified natural gas plant to be built by LNG Canada in Kitimat, in northern BC.  On today’s show we discussed the idea of job creation and environmental impact now that this LNG plant has been given the go ahead.

Chapter 2:

-It’s been more than two weeks since Senator Larry Campbell refused to answer questions about a possible conflict of interest, put to him by Sam Cooper.  Now the chair of the Justice Institute of BC, who held a key executive compliance position at River Rock casino in 2015, around the same time the Peter German report identified that $20 million in suspicious cash was laundered through the casino in just one month is dodging questions about Money Laundering in BC.

There are some welcome grace notes in a good day for BC and Canada:  John Horgan gave a shout out to two BC Liberal MLAs, Rich Coleman and Ellis Ross while former Premier Christy Clark tips her hat to John Horgan and the NDP.   The Vancouver Sun's Vaughn Palmer is here with his take on the day's headlines.

-In a statement released overnight, LNG Canada confirmed it’s constructing a $40 billion liquified natural gas plant at Kitimat, in northern BC, which will be the largest infrastructure project ever, in this country. The five final investors, including PETRONAS, Shell and Petro China granted their approval to the project late last night.

Chapter 2:

-Yesterday, Donald Trump took a victory lap after securing what he said was a ‘great deal for the USA and the world!’; a newly renegotiated NAFTA.  The United States Mexico Canada Agreement gives the US producers greater access to Canadian dairy, while ending so called Class 7 pricing on items north of the border.  Also the revamped NAFTA included a surprise element; ending the exclusivity of BC wine on grocery store shelves by November 2019. Did this come as a surprise to the BC wine industry?

LNG is the big news and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in town later this morning for a news conference with Premier John Horgan and LNG Canada to officially announce the $40-billion LNG project.  The Province newspaper's Michael Smyth is here with his take on the day's headlines.

Chapter 1:

After 14 months of intensive, ongoing discussions, the US and Canada have reached a tentative deal on NAFTA, which was approved by a pact from the US President. The new arrangement will give the US greater access to the protected Canadian dairy market, and in exchange, key dispute resolution measures will remain. Importantly, the US has agreed not to slap tariffs on autos.  The deal will be renamed the United States Mexico Canada Agreement, or USMCA.

Chapter 2:

UBS (a global wealth management company) has ranked the housing bubble likelihood for global cities. Vancouver came in fourth, behind Hong Kong, Munich and Toronto. This year’s study highlighted extreme unaffordability, where buying a 60 square metre apartment in most cities exceeds the wages of people earning the average annual income.
