Josh read:
“The Orange”
by Wendy Cope.
At lunchtime I bought a huge orange—
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave—
They got quarters and I had a half.
And that orange, it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park.
This is peace and contentment. It’s new.
The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all the jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I’m glad I exist.
Marty read:
The Tyger by William Blake
Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

"Don't Wish It To Be Over" - A Note To The Runners
Rosie Popa's Poem Choice:
“Life is amazing. And then it's awful. And then it's amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it's ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That's just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it's breathtakingly beautiful.”

Poem:
We think that once our day begins,
we must race to the end,
beating the sun to the floorboards,
finishing our coffee
before it's cold, and lifeless
catching the leaves before they hit the ground,
These are the races of life not to be won.
To finish, 4th, 3rd, first, for what?
To get the end before someone else?

Poem:
I feel life painting my battered knee-caps,
Colouring the scars with sand and oceans
I feel life painting my ever-changing torso,
filling the creases and holes with speckled sunlight.
I feel life move over my tired eyelids
red blotches dancing like a Spanish bullfight
I feel life talk to the chambers of my heart
and it knocks, ever-so-quietly,
asking to come in.

I could be anything in this world,
but I chose to be someone that
likes to drink tea on rainy saturday afternoons,
I chose to be someone that stares at the sky when it turns into honey
I could be anything in this world,
so I chose to be someone that asks questions with crooked marks
I chose to be someone that reminds you that some Mondays don’t need to be names.
I could be anything in this world
but I chose to be someone that likes words instead of spaceships
I chose to be someone that loved the breeze like an old friend.
I could be anything in this world
But I chose to love the things I couldn’t name
I chose to make my life a scrapbook glueing pieces together from this game.

I want to go running
so the world feels lighter by midday
and my mind dances samba
so birds chase me down long streets
and flowers stand taller in their pots
Petunias, gardenias, and frangipanis.
I want to go running
Not for the sake of it
Or to collect medallions, and timestamps
Not for the conversation it allows me
Or to compare myself to peers
Not for the sick joys of judgement
how fast, how far, where’d you finish.
I want to go running
So the sunrise talks to me in pinks and oranges
And the buildings hold up mirrors
So the light feels soft at every angle
And the streets hum quiet melodies
so my steps feel the rhythm of impact
and I remember that all
I ever wanted
Was just to go running.
