The JRPG Report

It's something different yet again on this week's Sunday Special. I dive deep in this week's Big In Japan sale and find all the treasure. In particular I list every RPG included in the sale. Plus I did through all the games to find the ones not listed as RPG's. You'll be shocked the ones the filter misses! At the end I give my top 5 can't miss RPG and non rpg games you need to pick up for sure. Thanks for listening!

Lots of great news stories this week. We have 22 minutes of new gameplay footage from Cris Tales. This game continues to impress me as it nears its 2020 release. I'll talk about the new releases of Sakura Wars and Trials of Mana in addition to a few Corona delays. So much good stuff to talk about I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening as always.

We welcome back Dalton Suter to the podcast for a great conversation all about FFVII Remake. As I just completed the game, Dalton will ask some questions this time as he is currently playing through the original. We try and keep it spoiler free as possible but some things can't be avoided. We then switch gears and give our top picks for games that need this level of remake treatment. Plus a few sacred gems that don't! At a little under 2 hours its our longest, and possibly best podcast yet. Sit back and listen to two nerds talk about JRPG's and enjoy.

Two remakes from Square Enix in two weeks? After the huge success of FFVII Remake on April 10, can they strike again with Trials of Mana. I doubt we'll see the same sales numbers but the game looks and plays great. Before its launch April 24, we have an interview with the game's developers on why they cut multiplayer, what changes were made, the challenges faced, and expectations moving forward. Plus all the other news of the week including a release date for Trails of the Beginning in Japan. Lots of news and lots of fun in your weekly JRPG podcast!

It's finally here. After 23 years and nearly 7 years since it's announcement, the world is now playing Final Fantasy VII Remake. Does it live up to the hype? I can only answer with my thoughts after almost 6 hours of playing it. The news of the week (not much this podcast) starts things off. Then after the break I'll give my reactions and impressions of the game. I hope you all are enjoying it as well. Thanks for listening!

*Potential Spoilers in this podcast* This has been a hard game to report on. I wanted to devote a Sunday Special to it because of the potential spoilers involved. Taking place after the events of Cold Steel IV, any research into this game ruins key outcomes of that series. So I've taken the brunt of it and tried to gather all info without ruining anything. You'll hear the words after the events of Cold Steel IV or I can't say this part a lot. But I feel I have a much better understanding of the game now, and hope you will too after listening. As always thanks for tuning in each week.

The huge worldwide release of Final Fantasy VII Remake is a mere 2 days away. But all is not well with delivery backups from Amazon. I'll let loose a little steam as my copy has been delayed until April 14. Square Enix did release a final trailer for the game (it shows a lot!) as well as some images in a final media dump. We'll have much more on the game with my initial impressions in next week's podcast.

The biggest news I wanted to share came from a recent interview with Falcom President Kondo. He talked about the growth of the series, the newest game Hajimari no Kiseki, and the company's new fans in the west. News about Y's IX was also in there along with localization of the PS4's Crossbell games. Plus more. Thanks so much for listening this week and every week.

Another Sunday is here and it's completely different again. After looking back at the Persona series last week, we discuss all the changes in Persona 5 Royal. Having played it for a few days now, I invite Dalton Bigshoots a long listener of the podcast and friend, to let us know what he has seen. I played it for about 2 hours so I have a few thoughts too. I hope you enjoy this fun conversation with two Persona and JRPG nerds.

Please don't be an April Fool's joke! We learned today on April 1 that Trails of Cold Steel IV will launch in the west this Fall 2020. The Switch and PC version in 2021. I can hardly contain my excitement as we've been waiting a long time on this announcement. In a huge JRPG week that saw the release of Persona 5 Royal, we had tons big announcements. Xenoblade Chronicles got a May 29 release date during the latest Nintendo Direct. I'm eagerly awaiting that game as well with my love of XC2 knowing no bounds. And I was wrong in Episode 105. It was the end of Mary Skelter, not Neptunia. I'll tell you about Mary Skelter Finale as well as many more stories in one of our best podcasts yet!
