The JRPG Report

I've pulled a few articles and the Persona wiki page to come up with a history of the JRPG series. With Persona 5 Royal set to release in a few days it seemed like the perfect time. I hope you enjoy this look back at the series, it's humble beginnings, and where it's headed. Thanks for listening.

No big lead stories this week. I finish up my thoughts on the Trials of Mana demo and cover a range of games from Genshin Impact to Sword Art Online to Sakura Wars. Plus a few more too. But the most surprising news may come on March 28 in a few days. Complile Heart's President has hinted at the ending of its "popular numbered series" to coincide with the end of Dengeki Playstation magazine in Japan. Is this the end of Neptunia? I think not as I talk about it in the podcast. You'll have to tune in next week for more info!

I'm on vacation the next two Sundays, so I needed to goto the soundtrack well a couple of times. However I think you will love this one. I got to experience this concert in person and it's amazing. A must see for any FF fan. This will get you fired up for FFVII Remake even more. Here is the description and tracklist from its fan wiki. Thanks so much for listening!

Distant Worlds IV: more music from Final Fantasy is an arrangement album of select orchestrated tracks from the Final Fantasy series. It was performed by Distant Worlds Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, Susan Calloway (track 8) and Arnie Roth (track 13). It was recorded on 14th and 15th March 2017 in The Dvorak Hall, Rudolfinum, Prague, Czech Republic.

The latest cancellation in the gaming world, E3 2020 will not go as usual. As fears around the corona virus spread, large conventions everywhere are being called off. Plans are still be made, but expect an online show of some sorts will still take place. In other happier news, we have details on Trials of Mana, the physical and digital versions of Sakura Wars in the west, and 3 Legend of Heroes stories. I'm on vacation next week so there may or may not be a show. Depends on the news. In the meantime please enjoy our next two Sunday Specials from the music of Final Fantasy. Thanks for listening!

Always something different on the Sunday Special. This week we cover 3 interviews with the directors and producers of Final Fantasy VII Remake. The first is taken from a video interview by Japanese professional wrestler Kenny Omega with producer Yoshinori Kitase. The second part is taken from multiple interviews with producer Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Naoki Hamaguchi and focuses on Midgar itself. The final interview is with with director Tetsuya Nomura talking about multiple topics. I hope you enjoy this look at the game from the amazing talents that created it. Thanks for listening.

The world got a taste of Final Fantasy VII Remake a month early as the long awaited and rumored demo finally released. Covering the first bombing mission and lasting a little over an hour, it left quite an impression. I'll talk about my feelings and some of our Facebook groups as well at the end of the podcast. We had other stories this week too of course including NIS America letting us down. Again. Thanks for listening each week fans I truly appreciate it.

It was truly a week without a headliner for Episode 101. I chose to focus on a Square Enix statement saying development of a PS5 or Xbox Series X specific game was still a long ways off. It appears most games will be up-res versions of currents systems. So when will we see a truly next game JRPG like FF XVI or DQ XII? Lord only knows. But we did have plenty of actual news to talk about in smaller stories. As always thanks for listening!
