Nixxi returned after several weeks away as Kev congratulated Nikita and Rob for completing the Great North Run in just over three hours. Nixxi announced that she wanted to run it with her dad the following year, prompting a search for something more impressive to carry than Tony the Fridge. A microwave was dismissed before the pair considered running inside a Flintstones-style car instead.

Kev and Nixxi also admitted they had somehow been late to Gangnam Style, despite usually priding themselves on finding the internet’s strangest music before everybody else. Kev then revealed one of his more inspired Amazon purchases: an entire CD containing nothing but different recordings of electric fans, including Cool Breeze and Front Porch in the Summertime.

Embarrassing party moments became the listener question after Nixxi remembered standing on her own dress, falling onto a table and sending everybody’s drinks flying at a party where she barely knew anyone. Kev countered with a ten-minute choking fit caused by a burger at a boys’ night and invited listeners to beat them. SmeggHeads followed with Simon, while the second hour brought Siri jokes, an 18th-birthday shoutout for Kyle and Kev’s discovery of proper pinball machines at a friend’s house. Shawn’s American listening adventures also led to a special hello for Michelle, who had worked her way through around seventy Kev and Nixxi podcasts.

Kev won SmeggHeads, taking the round by roughly 3-1 after answers including whippet and Jupiter.

Nixxi was out in town, so Kev handled the show on his own on Great North Run weekend. He sent good-luck messages to James, David, Steve and Keith after months of training, and to Craig, who had apparently remembered he was running it without doing any training at all. Nikita and Rob also got a shoutout for their charity run.

The internet supplied the first big subject as Kev discovered that words including “amazeballs”, “cyberbully”, “frape”, “lollage” and “lulz” had made it into the Collins Dictionary. He immediately demonstrated how terrible they would sound in a CV before moving into new music, including JLS, Nas with Amy Winehouse and more of the records Kev and Nixxi were championing at the time.

A low-battery warning sent Kev sprinting across the studio to rescue his laptop before it died. That led neatly into a bag of old CDs and cassettes he had found while clearing the cupboard under the stairs, providing material for Return of the Track and a run of musical memories. Listener Graham tuned in live after previously following the podcast, while Kyle and Simon were among those joining the solo show before Kev returned to the Great North Run shoutouts near the end.

Kev and Nixxi asked the question nobody else in radio had been brave enough to tackle: could a Lunchable genuinely replace a pizza? Nixxi arrived with one as part of another attempt at eating better, while Kev was hardly in a position to judge after spending most of the week having “treat days”. The bargain-food discussion quickly expanded into cheap sandwiches, party food and the sort of meal planning that made a Lunchable look positively responsible.

The Paralympics-themed SmeggHeads produced a spectacular 0-0 draw. Simon's later challenge was separate from the presenter result.

Kev and Nixxi attracted a complaint from a tree enthusiast and naturally turned it into most of the night’s entertainment. What began as a debate over whether trees were alive escalated into the sort of argument where a perfectly ordinary plant suddenly needed a personality, a voice and eventually its own place in Kev and Nixxi folklore. Listener reaction kept the tree debate growing long after a sensible programme would have moved on.

Kev won SmeggHeads 4-2.

A listener's plea for help with slugs somehow gave Kev and Nixxi a brand-new gardening feature. Stuart wanted to stop them destroying his lettuces, cabbages and vegetables, so Nixxi suggested building a wall of salt while listeners offered copper strips and beer traps. Gordon's plan was to let the slugs get wrecked and drown, while another listener proposed a used Fray Bentos pie tin filled with cheap beer. The gardening advice became steadily less horticultural from there.

Kev and Nixxi also launched Inspiration at 9.40, in which Nixxi read supposedly motivational messages from Twitter in her most inspirational voice over suitably dramatic music. The first offering warned people not to criticise others because it reflected badly on themselves. Return of the Track brought back Baby Cakes after the previous week's attempt to get it back to number one, complete with the ridiculous hashtags that had accompanied the campaign.

Simon returned for SmeggHeads after a two-week gap, while Mustang demanded a special mention after threatening to stop listening because Kev and Nixxi had forgotten to say hello. The final half-hour was handed over largely to listener requests, including choices from David and Dawn. Baby Cakes refused to go away completely, with a caller demanding it again before Kev was challenged to sing it himself. By the end of the night Kev had also decided to turn his social-media posts into a book and call his latest literary masterpiece Fifty Shades of Dre.

SmeggHeads finished as a draw, and Kev and Nixxi agreed to leave it that way rather than force another decider.

Kev and Nixxi asked the listeners when they had last screamed, opening the door to scares, embarrassing reactions and stories of people completely losing it. The pair supplied their own examples and kept the responses coming between the music and regular features.

SmeggHeads officially ended in a draw. Nixxi then said she would give it to Kev because she loved him, but the result itself remained a draw.

Kev and Nixxi celebrated the show's third birthday with three years of accumulated jokes, listeners and Saturday-night chaos to draw from. The anniversary gave them an excuse to revisit favourite bits from the past while the current listeners joined the birthday celebrations.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads 3-2.

Nixxi casually announced that her dad had trimmed her bush. She meant the one in the garden, but by then it was already far too late. Kev seized on the wording immediately and the innocent bit of gardening became the running joke for the night, with Nixxi repeatedly trying to drag the conversation back towards actual plants while Kev made that increasingly impossible.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads after picking up the stronger set of answers, including Egypt, Mercury and Disney World.

SmeggHeads brought bad news for Nixxi as she discovered Rob's previous appearance had wiped out her lead and left the scores level, with Simon Gunton back on question duty. Kev and Nixxi then disappeared into a huge nostalgia trip about their first computers and games. Nixxi remembered growing up with an Amiga before the pair worked through Atari, Space Invaders, the Spectrum and the Sega Master System, including the disappointment of getting Alex Kidd built in when she really wanted Sonic. Test Drive, Emerald Mine, Golden Axe and Turrican all got a mention before the memories moved towards Crash Bandicoot, Mario Kart, Xbox and PlayStation 3. A montage of game sounds led neatly into Unicorn Kid, while Kev became briefly obsessed with making Windows Sticky Keys noises for no useful reason whatsoever.

Nixxi returned to SmeggHeads to find that Rob had lost the lead she had previously built. Kev won the round 3-1.

Nixxi was away, so Rob Davies joined Kev for the night. The change of co-host did nothing to improve standards: Kev and Rob worked through the music, listener messages and the usual features while repeatedly finding new ways to distract each other and derail whatever they were supposed to be doing.

SmeggHeads went to a pocket-change tie-break and Kev won the week.
