Nixxi arrived with a new Mac laptop and very little idea what to do with it, allowing Kev to provide exactly the sort of technical support nobody should request from him. Meanwhile Kev had discovered MSN sexbots, sending the conversation from Apple confusion to some considerably stranger corners of the internet.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads, with the on-air verdict explicitly handing the week to her.

Kev and Nixxi said goodbye to Legend Tune, the presenter-versus-presenter vote that had been with the show since the beginning. After years of Kev and Nixxi choosing tracks, listeners voting and the winner opening the following show, the feature was finally retired and the pair gave it a proper send-off among the usual Saturday-night chaos.

Kev won SmeggHeads 3-2, celebrating his first win of the year.

Kev and Nixxi turned their attention to the rest of the radio schedule, taking the mick out of other shows before returning to one of their favourite subjects: equipment that refused to behave. Complaints about the studio mixed with listener messages, music and the usual Saturday-night shazam.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads 3-2.

Indian food somehow ended up on a pizza, giving Kev and Nixxi a new culinary problem to investigate between the hits. The pair debated whether the combination was genius or an offence against both cuisines while listeners added their own opinions.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads 2-0 and refused to gamble away the winning point once the result was secure.

The first show of 2012 brought the inevitable post-Christmas weight-loss promises, Nixxi's X Factor audition and the birth of Beats by Kev and Nixxi. Dieting and pop-star ambitions were treated with equal seriousness, which is to say almost none, as the listeners joined the new-year chaos.

Kev edged SmeggHeads by half a point, finishing 3.5 to Nixxi's 3.

Christmas was approaching, which was unfortunate because Nixxi had very strong feelings about Christmas songs. Kev and Nixxi worked through life's other pressing challenges as well, with party food, sausage-related nonsense and listener messages ensuring the festive spirit never became too respectable.

Kev won SmeggHeads and made sure everybody knew how good he felt about it.

The studio spent much of the night fighting back as technical problems repeatedly interrupted Kev and Nixxi. Bakery-themed songs became one of the running ideas, Tommy sat in with the pair, and Simon returned for SmeggHeads. The quiz produced an unusual result as Kev and Nixxi effectively ended up on the same side, which did very little to make the proceedings any more sensible.

SmeggHeads produced an unusual first: Kev and Nixxi ended up winning together rather than one beating the other.

Kev arrived late, felt rough and still had to get through a Bonfire Night show, so Rob Davies joined Kev and Nixxi in the studio. Listeners were challenged to come up with vegetable songs, giving the three of them increasingly terrible titles to work through between fireworks talk, music and the regular features.

Nixxi completed a full house in SmeggHeads and won 5-4.

Rob Davies joined Kev and Nixxi to talk about a radio marathon, while the end of R.E.M., the famously landlocked Hexham seafront and a run of Adele jokes all fought for airtime. The studio equipment also came in for the usual abuse as the programme bounced from one subject to another.

Nixxi was initially declared the SmeggHeads winner. A disputed final answer was later split half a point each, but it did not overturn her lead, so Nixxi kept the win.

Nixxi somehow managed to get the radio station banned from Google, which gave Kev all the ammunition he needed for the night. Nokia's need for a new ringtone joined the technology trouble, with Kev, Nixxi and the listeners offering the sort of assistance neither company had asked for.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads by half a point, with the Green Cross Code question providing the tiny margin between them.
