Ghosts became one of the night’s big arguments, including the important question of whether Kev could be buried with an iPhone and somehow continue using it. Nixxi then became involved in an equally serious debate over whether toast counted as a proper meal, giving listeners two completely different subjects on which to tell the pair they were wrong.

Kev won SmeggHeads; by the last Mars question Nixxi admitted the answer no longer mattered because she had already lost.

Kyle and Maggie visited the studio as Kev and Nixxi tackled Pizza Bubbles, Brownfinger and a listener's warning about why drinking alcohol was a bad idea. With guests physically in the room as well as listeners joining remotely, the show moved rapidly between stories, reactions and the regular Saturday-night features.

Alex's final scoreboard gave Kev a 3-1 SmeggHeads victory.

Nixxi's pre-show trip to Tesco set the tone immediately when she convinced Kev to try a ham and cheddar sandwich wrapped inside a croissant. It contained around 75 per cent of the recommended daily allowance of saturated fat, but that looked positively restrained beside the brownies, flapjacks, Red Bull, Kinder Eggs and crisps they had also brought into the studio. The Kev and Nixxi approach to healthy eating was therefore off to a magnificent start before the first few records had even played.

The new Celebrity Big Brother had also started. Nixxi had watched the launch and was already following Tara Reid, Jedward and the rest of the house, while Kev was considerably less committed. A discussion about Jedward sharing a bath and apparently protecting their trademark hair was enough to establish that Big Brother updates were likely to become another source of Saturday-night nonsense.

Kinder Eggs then became an on-air engineering challenge. Nixxi complained that the redesigned plastic capsule was capable of trapping your lip, Kev attempted to assemble the toy against the clock and took two minutes and 52 seconds, and Mustang used the chat room to comment on Nixxi's eating while she was still surrounded by chocolate. Later, Shawn joined Kev and Nixxi from America and promised to send over pretzel M&M's. That became a transatlantic comparison of American sweets, Polo holes, doughnut holes and the Northern Irish 'gravy ring', before Shawn gave the studio a weather report from a very hot Florida while Newcastle was already dark.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads 4-3, taking the decisive edge in a close round.

Nixxi faced mystery food, an apparent alien encounter and a conversation about people who were both bubbly, loud and fat. Kev naturally encouraged every part of it, turning a collection of unrelated subjects into another Saturday night of listener messages, music and escalating nonsense.

Nixxi won SmeggHeads, with the post-quiz teasing making Kev's defeat very clear.

Nixxi returned from Belfast with stories from the trip, attempted the apparently advanced skill of telling the time and watched Kev arrive with a surprise. Travel, clocks and the mystery purchase became the night's excuses for the usual arguments and listener involvement.

SmeggHeads tied in the regular round and went to a complete-the-TV-show-name tie-break. Nixxi got there first and won, although the result prompted an on-air complaint about the rules.

Kev was convinced he was going deaf, while Nixxi revisited her trip to hospital with suspected swine flu. The pair compared their medical misfortunes, exaggerated them wherever possible and let the listeners join in before the conversation inevitably wandered somewhere less useful.

The regular SmeggHeads round tied and so did the first Boyzone tie-break. A second decider asked how many weeks Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around spent at number one; Kev answered 15, exactly right, and won.

Kev and Nixxi discovered the unexpected upside of complaining: sometimes people sent free stuff. That prompted stories about successful complaints and what people had managed to get out of them, while Nixxi was rather less forthcoming when the subject of fridge fires appeared.

SmeggHeads tied in the regular round and went to a Nile-length tie-break. Kev was closer and won, levelling the running score at 17-17.

Kev and Nixxi celebrated two years on air, looking back at the nonsense that had accumulated since July 2009 while carrying on exactly as normal. The anniversary gave the pair and the listeners an excuse to revisit favourite moments, recurring jokes and the features that had become part of Saturday nights.

Kev won SmeggHeads 2-0.

Kev came into Show 102 still nursing a headache that had been hanging around for two weeks, while Nixxi arrived with a rather different health plan: three boxes of chocolates, including Quality Street, Heroes and Maltesers. Much of the first hour was spent trying to launch a redesigned Kev & Nixxi website live on air, with Nixxi handling the changes while Kev kept the programme moving and the listeners in the new chat room refreshed their way into it. The pair also argued about healthy eating, old photographs and whether preparing proper food was really worth the effort when a takeaway produced far less washing up.

Alex returned for SmeggHeads with a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire question book after the website work had left him no time to prepare his usual questions. The multiple-choice round included maths, the Star of David, clerical clothing, Elvis Presley and Casablanca. Nixxi won the week, moving the running SmeggHeads score to 17-16 in her favour. The second hour then wandered into old internet nonsense and music memories, with Amazing Horse making repeated appearances, the Badger Song and Nyan Cat being discussed, and Kev and Nixxi digging back into older dance favourites including Eiffel 65, Lasgo and Fragma before The Killers brought the programme to a close.

Nixxi took the night off, but SmeggHeads still needed an opponent for Kev. Shawn stepped in for her side of the quiz, bringing one of the show's regular American listeners directly into the competition while Kev carried the rest of the Saturday-night chaos.
