Who is Shira O'Sullivan?
Shira O'Sullivan is the co-founder and director of gentSac. Shira O’Sullivan co-founded premium men’s grooming brand gentSac with her partner Ross in 2015. With an ambition to transform the way men approach personal grooming, the brand is at the forefront of tailored subscription options and is currently the only offering of its kind in Australia.
A personalised, easy-to-use service, gentSac offers specially curated Sacs filled with male essentials that can be purchased as a subscription or on a one-off basis to encourage men to take pride in their daily grooming.
In her late teens gentSac founder Shira began her retail career with Australian women’s fashion brand CUE clothing. She quickly established herself as one of the top sellers in the business nationally and moved through the ranks into the management team where she oversaw flagship stores. Her dynamic approach to sales had a major impact on the business and after some great achievements she took on a state role for high-end fashion business, Funky Femme.
While working closely with the general manager at Funky Femme, Shira also took on a contract role with Review, troubleshooting and sales training with poor performing stores to increase revenue and establish stronger teams. With her background in retail, sales and human resource management Shira was soon managing major retail projects while running training and development for national and international brands including Michael Paige and Sheike. This experience has enabled her to better understand and value the needs and demands of target consumers. Thanks to her ability to source quality products and relate to the needs and demands of consumers it’s no surprise Shira is now at the helm of her own successful brand.
Shira credits her partner Ross for inspiring gentSac. The idea came after a ‘lightbulb moment’. Ross, like so many other men, was less than confident when it came to sourcing quality grooming products that met his individual needs. Undoubtedly, there was a gap in the marketplace for an offering that catered to this consumer.
Shira looked into market research, which overwhelmingly supported Ross’ statement– that Australian men are time-poor, use substandard products that do not meet their specific needs and have a misconception that good grooming habits are far too expensive to maintain. Inspired by this consumer research, Shira sought to reinvent the landscape of men’s grooming and offer a convenient, premium solution for the time-poor gentleman.
